November 18, 201213 yr I had really hoped that my stint as the school's Network Administrator would have been done by now but.... Anyway, Matthias Wandel's newsletter came this morning and it has some really great information about turning segmented, hollow vessels. There are two links that hopefully you'll find interesting. In the first link, the author- Pekka Svinhufvud- discusses clamping techniques for creating the layers of the turning. http://woodgears.ca/reader/pekka/segmented_bowl.html He explores several techniques of both clamping and turning with the lathe as the primary device for both processes. I have always wondered how the designs, in these types of turnings, were created. A second link, in the same newsletter, describes how this is done! http://woodgears.ca/reader/pekka/sailboat.html As you read these articles, check out Mr. Svinhufvud's home made tools/equipment. They are amazing!! Hopefully, in a week or so, life here will return to "normal" and these discussions will be on a more regular schedule. Safe Turning! November 19, 201213 yr Great turnings Lew, Wish I could do these but I just don't have the room for the layout and glueups I do have other things in the works though and will start posting these soon. One recent project was posted to my FB page but not here so I'll get that posted somewhere here today. Have a great week everyone.
