November 26, 201213 yr Here is a sample of the 15 pens I'm in the process of turning. I need your opinions. The 1st from left to right is made from a recycled CORIAN counter top with blue trim rings. The rings are made by cutting a groove with a parting tool and then packing embossing powder into the groove and then locking the powder in with thin CA and then turned to final dimension. The 2nd is Mahogany with Walnut segments. The 3rd is Walnut. The 4th is Mahogany and the 5th is CORIAN. www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
November 26, 201213 yr Mike those are cool! They all look great. And they'll all serve our troops just fine. I had a thought, all the pens will work just fine, but the Corian pens could have an advantage in a tactical field environment being water resistant and all. I am a wood guy though, if one of those were coming to me, I'd pick the 2nd from the left, I like the wood and the rings. But they all look great man.John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops
November 26, 201213 yr Author Thanks John, the wood pens have 8 coats of CA, micro-mesh and then polished so they should hold up under some moisture but I wouldn't submerge them for sure.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops

November 26, 201213 yr I like the corian w/ blue rings, but I'd be proud to carry any of them.GregScroll Saw forum hosthttp://www.thesawdustfactoryga.com/
November 27, 201213 yr Author Thanks for your input guys! I think most of the pens will be from the Corian. As John said from a tactical perspective the Corian will be more practical. Not as susceptible to moisture as the wood ones. www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
