December 1, 201213 yr I just finished the last hiking stick that I have planned for Christmas gifts for my family. A hiking stick is loosely defined as a long, nearly shoulder height, stick. A walking stick is defined as being about waist or cane length.   I turned the handles out of exotic wood scrap and spalted apple. The stick is maple and I used several different techniques to get the different effects. I have people wanting  me to make some for profit and may do that some time, but not now. Â

December 2, 201213 yr Author I like those two also, however women prefer the other two.?? I have not made any yet for sale, but may some day. I did not chisel or carve them, I used special sanding/staining techniques to achieve the different looks. I will be shipping them out this week. UPS wanted about $50 to pack and ship one. I went to big box and got a free cardboard box that worked perfectly. The US post office will ship them much cheaper.
