December 4, 201213 yr My friend Jim from our Bible Study group told me that he has an older (1988) bench top drill press that he was given by his co-worker Sam. Sam got the bug to do some work at home in his garage and bought a few tools, but it never took off. He bought the DP new in 1988 and it was used only a few times and has sat ever since in his garage collecting dust and now is in Jim's garage as Sam was going to throw it away but Jim didn't want it thrown away as it is a good machine. Apart from some surface rust it should be in great condition. I have not physically seen or touched it yet, but will later this week. I told Jim I would look into it and see about finding a home for it to get it out of his garage. So I did a bit of a search on the web but did not come up with anything on it so I thought I would post here to see if someone else might know something about it. Any information would be appreciated. December 5, 201213 yr Allen, I've seen the same drill press's at one of those roving ( Harbor Freight type ) tool sellers. They put a sales flyer in the local newspaper and rent a building for a week or two, and then are gone again. They come around about once a year. The same drill press is sold under a few different brand names. So tracking down who actually makes it may prove difficult. Â Larry Old Woodworking Machinery Forum Host
December 6, 201213 yr As Larry said, you could go into a Harbor Freight today Allen and see the exact same drill press for sale. It's probably sold under many different names, maybe even Craftsman!John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops and Wounded Warriors Project
December 6, 201213 yr Author That sounds about right since I had not heard of the "Summit" name before. I will still get over there this next week and eye ball it and see about the condition and then go from there. If it runs well I will see if I can clean it up and then get it into some woodworker's hands and out of my friend's garage so he has more room for his fishing gear.Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.net'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J.
