Free Bench top Drill Press in Riverside/San Bernardino Calif. area

Featured Replies

The drill press has been picked up by a very happy guy! He was all grins and giggles as he drove off with it in the back of his truck. It did not go to anyone here on TPW

I have a bench top drill press in perfect working condition to give away for free to anyone who wants it in the Riverside/San Bernardino Calif. area.

Yes.....FREE!!

This drill press was purchased new in 1988 by a gentleman as he wanted to do some woodworking/home improvement stuff at home. It was used only a couple of times and then it has just been sitting in his garage. He was going to throw it away but my friend from church who works with him told him that he would take it and try to find a home for it and he told me about it since he knew that I do woodworking. The drill press is in perfect working order but has some surface rust on it from sitting in the garage over the years.

This is a Summit Model# T9177 1/2HP 5 speed drill press with 5/8" chuck made in Taiwan that stands 40" tall. Quality-wise it would be somewhere between a Harbor Freight and Grizzly level so it is not a high end machine. But then again, drill presses are pretty generic in their design and function which is to drill holes. The only thing I did was to blow it off with my air compressor and spray a bit of Windex on the painted surfaces and wipe off. I did clean a small portion of the table with some WD40 and a piece of steel wool to rub it a bit. It took me about 1 minute to spray/rub/wipe-off.

So this is a great little drill press in great condition. This is a "first come first serve" thing. If you are interested you need to contact me by email and let me know. You will need to pick it up from me in Corona, CA 92881. If you live close to me (say 15-20 miles or so from Corona, CA) I will deliver it.

This is the inside of the top with the pulleys and belt. This is how it looked when I opened it without any cleaning.

This is the table that I shot some WD40 on and then used a piece of steel wool to rub it a bit. It took me about 1 minute to spray/rub/wipe-off.

Allen, can we donate it to Lt Timothy Fallon? We'll get some shipping funds together through other members? Just a thought!

Not sure John but a suggestion If I might! Would Woodcraft be inclined to ship the drill press to Tim. They have a great rate through the major shippers and they could be reimbursed for the cost. I wish I were closer I could ship it FEDEX with a 90% discount but I would have to be present when it's shipped.

Just a thought!

The drill press was picked up a few minutes ago and the guy was very happy to have it.

He was not a TPW member.

Awesome Allen! For our guests, Allen and I discussed the disadvantages of the freight costs and decided it was not cost effective to send to our Marine, thanks for the opportunity Allen.

I did get a kick out of the guy. He emailed me and gave me his cell number and I called him. He was so excited over the phone and he was looking up my address on the computer as we were talking. He said he would be here from about 20 miles away and would be at my house in 25 minutes. He made it in 20 minutes and that is flying here in So. Calif. on the 2 freeways and surface streets that he had to take to get here. It made my day to be able to give someone something that they really needed. He is not a woodworker but does some type metal working out of his home to make extra money and all he had was a hand drill and he struggled getting straight holes. So this will help him greatly in his work.

Hope he can put it to good use and make a little extra $$.

You are a good man, Allen.

That is awesome Allen. It's amazing how things just work out. There are little miracles that pop up all over the place, the dp was presented at the right time, and the right guy got it, he needed it! Thanks Allen.

Awesome Allen, Glad it went to someone who could use it. I guess as I am reading this he was not a member here but read you post on the site as a guest. That is great. I wonder how often he reads the post here of if he just stumbled up on it.

Actually I posted the drill press on a couple of sites besides TPW for more exposure so he did not read it here on TPW. When I said that he was not a TPW member I should have said that he did not see the post here on TPW but on another site I posted it on. Sorry about that.

That's a Sweet little DP. I  know Lt Fallon   will enjoy it.

glade to hear it went to someone who really needed it.

I really could have used it. But I am not sure I could beat his 20minutes with me coming from IN to CA It might have taken me a whole 45 minutes.
