December 12, 201213 yr  Many of you have seen the  walking/hiking sticks I have made. An amazing thing has happened to two of the people I have given them to. Both of them are elderly and have trouble maintaining balance while walking. Both have a difficult time with regular canes because of the low gripping point of a cane. Another BIG problem was self esteem. Using a cane meant that they were old and feeble, an image they couldn't accept. When they received the sticks I made, they wanted to show them off. My brother was one of them and he was proud to tell where he got it and who made it. They quickly adapted to using them for walking. Now neither guy will leave the house without them, which makes their family very happy
December 12, 201213 yr See, that's just it, they don't look like a standard cane by any means. they actually look like walking sticks and are very classy, so it's much easier to accept using them, not to mention being able to show them off My mother, even in her late 40's would use one walking around in the woods. I myself would be very happy to use one if I could, but things are at the point now that the chair is my only option.
