December 21, 201213 yr  Drawing up a plan, or two, for a little bench.  A small flat rate box came in the mail, toady. So, now I have a second project to do.  If I get the second one done, it might help out on the first one.  Might take just a wee bit of work though..Just a small Craftsman (Sargent) block plane.Maybe a tad bit rusty??Just a litte..What better way to spend a "Snow Day"? Off to the Dungeon!   ;-)) Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
December 22, 201213 yr Author made a bit of progress today...mainly with just a wire wheel in the drill press.  cap iron was ok, some of the rest was a bit rusty.   all that was used on it, was the wire wheel, a brass one. even worked on the iron, just a little bit...might need just a little more work, though.  as for the other project, the test track is a 1x8x4' plank.    all pieces of a stool will come from it.   used a few planes to dress the board a bit.   Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
December 22, 201213 yr Author  Made some progress on a little stool...Checking for width, laying out where the legs will go.    Clamped both legs together, and planed the edges to match.  Also set the top (seat?) on edge, and got rid of some barky edges.   Need to make dados.   Need to cut some tenons on the legs, and mortise the top for the tenons.    Not sure what this wood is, kind looks ( and smells) like Oak. I can't wait until my REAL bench gets here...I even broke a bandsaw blade today.   I did make a nice mess on the floor, again...Just playing around in the Dungeon... December 24, 201213 yr Author Tried out an older saw to cut some curves...Saw was ok, worked just fine.  It was that POS blade, and it would bend just making a few cuts after awhile.    First couple cuts were alright, then the blade went downhill, fast.  Going out and about later today, and I'll see what I can bring back to the Dungeon.  Let's see:  Router & bits ( out @ the barn) Chisels (same) Bandsaw blades(2) ( guess where) More clamps? yep they are out there too.  My "good" squares as well.   Looking like a van load of stuff to bring back.  PS: On the way out the door at Mom's last night, went to pull the door shut behind me......doorknob came off!   Just NOT my day.. NOW, I also have to fix that knob!   Dad put in the widest off-set doorknobs he could find. And nobody else has any.   Thinking just get a set of knobs, and use the old set between the knob and latch plate.   IF I can find one close, that is... December 26, 201213 yr Author Ok, test fit is now done for both legs.  I even tested it out by standing on it.  Bandsaw blade was at fault, set up was wrong, and the guides were making some sparks.  Broke a sabresaw blade cutting some of the parts out.   Tenons were just a little off. So, went out to the old shop, and brought in load #2.  In it were two other bandsaw blades, I take my time setting them up.  Also a few "new' ( never used !!) sabresaw blades.   They cut this old "oak" like hot knife through warm butter!  And, the shocking part?  They were by Black & Decker!  Loaded up a large box.  Set of Forstner bits in a plastic case.  Bunch of screwdrivers, scratchawls, clamps and all my chisels. Even found my can of 3 in1 oil!  Packed up all my good squares, couple special hammers, sanding belts, and ;oaded that in the van.   I also bagged up my Craftsman Router kit into it's carryall bag.  Fixed base, and plunge base.  Loaded up the drill bits, router bits, and a tap & die set.  Add all this to the two Dremel accessory kits I got from Santa, I would say it was a decent day.   Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
December 26, 201213 yr Author  Tried out the bench last night....by standing on it!   220 pounds, and not even a "creak" out of the bench.  Still have to fine tune the M7T joints, and, I might even add some braces, dovetailed into the corners.  Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
