January 2, 201313 yr Author comment_19039 Thanks for all of the kind words. They are really appreciated! This is not my design, stole borrowed it from an acquaintance on another site. He posted a how to blog that gives the basic steps. It can be found at- http://lumberjocks.com/degoose/blog/10460.Actually, our own Mike Dillen makes a beautiful cutting board with a very similar pattern. I think his process is much easier to do especially the fitting and gluing. He even developed clamping jigs to improve assembly.Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. January 2, 201313 yr Author comment_19038 Charles,A trivet is just a fancy name for a hot pad that protects a surface from a hot pan or dish. I didn't know that until Mimi pointed it out to me.Charles Nicholls said:great job Lewis, i really don't know what Trivet's are or what they are used for, but I really like these.Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks Report

January 4, 201313 yr comment_19031 Very, very nice work Lewis. I have done some similar work and was very proud of all the work and precision that goes into that kind of work. You sure nailed it. PS Don't allow any one to put a live plant on it, as my wife did mine. You can guess what happened. Report

January 4, 201313 yr comment_19026 LOL... My first attempt at a bowl began with a large block of wood that I was sure was hiding a bowl. Little did I realize that it wasn't a bowl at all but a small plate. Wood is very tricky that way!Lewis Kauffman said:If it's like Mimi's cutting board- you end up with a bowl!!Ron Altier said:Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler.
