Skills to add this coming year.

Featured Replies

So looking at the projects you made this year and the projects on your "Want to build" list I have a question for all of you.

In the next year, yea a whole 12 months, what skill would you like to add to your woodworking knowledge.

What would you like to be able to do that you just haven't tried yet woodworking related?

What new or old tool would you like to add to your shop to improve your woodworking?

How about sharing with us your answers to the above questions.

I'd like to VASTLY improve my scroll sawing....without buying a new saw.

Also, I have several old Baileys and Sweethearts that I need to restore. That's another skill set I need to nurture.

Finally, I think chip carving might be fun.

I want to hone my dovetailing skills.  I'm adequate but adequate doesn't get it.

Time traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!

I have a Jet mortising machine that I've had for several years that I bought brand new but it has never been used so I would like to get it set up and use it more often.

Also same as Ron, I need to get better at dovetailing.

As far as skills go cleaning and organizing my shop, and combining it to one building too. As far as tools, I'd like to have a jointer.

Dovetails by hand John!!! That is going to be my number one priority, is acing DT's by hand!

And something I have not tried yet? Turning, but I need a lathe first.

I really want a lathe, I think it's going to happen this year!

And on my want to build list, well a few more chairs, but something I have not built but want to build is a shaving horse!

John,

Made this one for a friend-

He said it worked great although he modified the head by adding a softer piece of wood to prevent marring the work piece. This one can be partially disassembled for transportation.

I thought about building this. But, discarded the idea. Reaching for the moon is admirable....this is too many light years away for my short arms.
