Union Meeting!

Featured Replies

Well, it has taken almost a year, but I think I might have a set of Union made (1900-1917) handplanes.  Not sure about who made the KK7 down in the shop, but, the following group are made by Union Mfg Co. of New Britain, CT. ning-sdc14068-18871-70.jpg?width=750#3, #4G, #5A, and two #6s.   One was made for a Seth Savage Co.   the other was for Shipleigh hardware of St. Louie as a Diamond Edge DE6c.    Most are of the early Union plane era, usually called type #2.   A look at the bottoms..ning-sdc14067-18871-84.jpg?width=750That #4 shows one of the bad sides of having grooves cut in the soles,  rust!   The bottom three I have just finished "Re-Freshing".    One more look before the meeting is adjourned..ning-sdc14069-18871-50.jpg?width=750Check out the lateral levers.   that is a Union trademark.    Meeting is now adjourned...

Looking good Steve, what happened to the blade opening at the bottom? Is that wear?

As found when I bought the plane at an Antique store.......for......$25+tax.    Seems a lot of planes had this kind of wear.
