January 9, 201313 yr  On checking the irons on my three Jack planes.   One was great, nice and sharp. The other two were in need of a little trip to the grinder, and then to the stones....That rest is set at 25 degrees.  Both irons needed to be reground. One needed some dings removed, the other needed a new camber ground on it.    Re-ground the first until a nice, straight edge showed up.     I also made sure the back was flat.  As for a camber, first I marked out the outline on the back of the iron.  Then ground to the line, and then flattened the back..   Back upstairs (whew, I hate stairs) to the Kitchen counter top.  Better light, flatter work area.   A shot of the two irons.  There is an "Accent light" causing that red glow.  I left the chipbreaker on to help stablize the iron.  I also had worked over both chip breakers to make them match their irons. Ran the two iron over my three oil stones, and a little green stuff on a small buffer wheel. after the stones, cambered edge...and the straight edge.    Placed them back in the planes they came from, time for the Test Drives...The cambered edge, in a PARPLUS #5 Jack, Test track was a little barky ( live edge) and needed jointed down.  Next..The other iron cleaning up is a Handyman #1205 by Stanley.  Wood seems to be an Oak, of some sort.  Handyman can take even thinner shavings than this.  Now, all three jack planes are sharp and ready to work... January 9, 201313 yr You've got this sharpening down pat now. I found an old plane of my Dad's that I have to check out. I know it'll need some TLC of some sort.Harry BrinkBulldog WoodworkingMontana
January 9, 201313 yr Author  I think I have a few chisels to finish up.    Some are a might short to grind on the grinder, as is.  Might have to find a "Jig" to bring the short stuff to the grinder wheels @ 25Degrees.    The rest won't get close up, stays almost an inch away.    I can even get a finger in there....Sign on pick up truck's back window..:' Save a Horse, ride a Cowboy'
