January 9, 201313 yr It has been a bit since I have been on here. Holidays and my last shows of hte year kept me in the shop most all the time in Nov and Dec. Happy to say my last 2 shows of the year were my top selling ever. Mostly thanks to my segmentation ornaments. i'll get pics of those soon as I make another batch. shops took all I had. I have been VERY busy making more intarsias tho and thought I would share some of the pics. If you would like to see al of them I have dont to this point please check out my new and improved website. www.the-cut-above.com if you go tot he site the photos are in a thumb nail form so click on one and then you can scan them all Lots more photos to add of other products but that will have to wait for right now. this one was a request. even this simplified version has over 120 pieces and used 32 different woods. another eagle. this one has a 50 inch wingspan. Proudly hangs on my bedroom wall. found a pic of one of my segmented ornaments. its not a good pic so please forgive that but will give you an idea. To see the rest of the intarsia just check out my website. Already have 4 more cut ready to be shaped so more photos will be coming. Have a great ad sawdusty week everyone.

January 10, 201313 yr Beautiful work Joe!!! I love the intarsia, it is definitely woodworking I need to try my hand at. I love it all and the guitars! Wow!I surfed on over to your site and your looking good over there too. Thanks for coming back and sharing and I wish you the best in your venture and work. The bird ornament, is that how intarsia looks before it is shaped? I am guessing you'll take chisels and gouges and shape the wood at the glue lines?John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops and Wounded Warriors Project
January 10, 201313 yr Author Yes and no to your bird ornament question. the segmented ornaments will not be shaped I just cut from them from various types of wood. Stack cutting. Then i interchange the pieces and sand smooth. Add a clear finish and they are ready to hang. Started making these and other patterns and sold out almost every show after that. Shops selling out also. The dove pictured went for 8 dollars each and could not seem to make enough. As far as shaping. When i cut the intarsias i use normally 3/4 lumber. Cut all the pieces and dry fit so i can make any replacements needed. I have a 3in dia drum sander with 80 grit paper. I use it to sand and shape the pieces. Them smooth them out with other grits by hand. For raised parts i either use shims or will add full size backers to a piece or set of pieces. Adds a more 3d effect. I have chisels and gouges but dont often use them. This is my method but i am always adapting and learning new ways. I can take photos and explain in detail if you like.

January 14, 201313 yr They are all amazing works of art. Showed great mastery of your skill and workmanship. You are able to work with more than 30 different kinds of wood which made every piece so detailed and creative especially with the guitars. ____________________________________________________________________________________www.sawblade.comTo know but not to do is not yet to know.WWW.SAWBLADE.COM
