January 13, 201313 yr comment_18508 Had a chance to play with the Mini Easy Finisher from Easy Wood Tools and I AM IMPRESSED!!! I was given a nice piece of Spalted Maple and decided to turn a platter. If you've ever worked with this type of wood you know it can have punky, soft spots. Even freshly sharpened tools can give less than desirable results. Realizing the Mini Finisher was not deigned to turn this type of work, made the results all the more astonishing. These photos show the platter (shallow dish) with NO sanding. I used a regular bowl gouge and scraper to round and flatten the blank. The only tool used to shape/cut the blank was the  Mini Easy Finisher. I am definitely looking forward to trying out the other three tools from Easy Wood Tools!! Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins! January 13, 201313 yr comment_18513 Actually the mini easy finisher and rougher are made for this and other small, not over 2 inch or so deep projects. It also turns pens like no other tool I have used other than the next size up which is what I have. Great looking platter there too Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks Report

January 14, 201313 yr comment_18511 Great looking platter Lewis!I'll be sending you the EWT loaner tools today. I now you'll give them a good shake down and review. For me the cutters are on the small side and in my view they are great for small spindles but not my cup of tea for pen turning. I prefer the larger sized carbide inserts that I have on my Wood Pen Pro. On deer antler and acrylic the EWT left ridges & chip out and it took a lot of time to smooth out. Whereas the WPP has a wider cutter and produced a better finish. Either way carbide is the way to go. No sharpening and the edge doesn't dull as quickly and they produce a clean cut.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops Report
