January 17, 201313 yr Well the annual Ice Fest and Chili Cook Off is only a week or so away and already there is a problem. I bought a new propane burner to keep my friend's Atomic Chili warm during the festivities and that's when I discovered a short coming. Yep, it was either duck tape an extension to the spoon or....(to paraphrase Gallagher)....... The amazing Mastertool Corporation, a subsidiary of Fly-By-Night Industries, has entrusted who? Me! To show you the handiest and the dandiest kitchen tool you've ever seen, and don't you want to know what it is! I introduce to you... "The Chili Oar"!! Combination stirring, scraping and dipping utensil. Made from a Bradford Pear branch. I turned the handle and scoop overall shape on the lathe (used my new steady rest on the handle). Then carved, scraped and sanded the "bowl" shape. Couple of applications of mineral oil. Now if the Ghost Pepper, Habanaro, Carribean Red, Jalapeno and Thai Chilies sauce doesn't burn through the pot, we'll be OK. Thanks for looking Lew Kauffman- Wood Turners Forum Host Time traveler. January 18, 201313 yr doubles as general purpose persuader too I bet.Ya know I can't remember the last time I saw three rivets on a pot handle. What manufacturer is stamped on the bottom of that pot?
January 19, 201313 yr Author Cliff,The pot was part of a propane turkey fryer. Not really a very heavy (thick) pot but large (30 quart). We don't deep fry turkeys but will use it for cookouts and maybe some canning late in the summer.Got it at Gander Mountain.Cliff said:doubles as general purpose persuader too I bet.Ya know I can't remember the last time I saw three rivets on a pot handle.
