John Moody
So I started this Cedar Chest about a month ago. Â Dovetail joints in the corners. I got the final coat of varnish on the cedar chest on Thursday night. Saturday morning, I got the hinges back on the lid and the lid on the chest. Here it is, three coats of Shellac and three coats of General Finish Enduro Var, Satin finish. Hinges are Torsion Hinges from Rockler. It has two 60 lb and one 40 lb hing. They will hold the lid at any position you put it. Sorta like a laptop lid. So it got picked up today and it out of the shop now. On to other projects now. Robert Downs
Beautiful chest John. What kind of dove tail jig do you use? I am shopping for a new one and have not decided which one to get. Too many choices!    Bob
John Moody
Robert I use this one. I purchased it a couple of years ago at The Woodworking Show. It works really great and it pretty easy to setup. Cut the pins on one side and the tails on the other side.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
John Morris
Hey John, have you ever looked into the Keller? John Moody
I have not. I saw the one I have at The Woodworking Show when they were in Huntsville, AL and purchased it then. It works really well and is easy to setup.I see if I can look the Keller up and see what the difference is.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

Gene Howe
Really nice chest, John. The dovetails and the base treatments are very nice.Just curious, why the different hinge weights? Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' John Moody
I weighted the top once it was put together and then went on the Rockler site and they have a calculator that tells you which hinges and how many you need for the top based on the depth and weight. These hinges hold the top at any position you put it sorta like a laptop. It can be part of the way open or all the way and it will hold it in that position.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
SQ
John, Great job! Â I don't see the dimensions but it looks huge. Â The base is very decorative and adds such a nice touch. Â Now you have room for bowl making. Â SQ Happiness is wood chips flying!

John Moody
Thanks Sue, I have one more on the bench and then to the bowl making. It is 46" long, 20" deep and 20" high. Pretty much standard blanket chest size.SQ said: John, Great job! Â I don't see the dimensions but it looks huge. Â The base is very decorative and adds such a nice touch.
