  1. I was perusing Instagram and found this little gem. The students at North Bennet Street School Woodworking Program, build several sheds a year and sell them. Considering the venue that NBSS is, they are all about high quality craftsmanship, joinery, and working with high quality materials, these sheds they are building are absolutely beautiful. They sell for 6500.00 each, I know I know, you are thinking hey, if I want a shed, I'll build one myself, and anyone here in our woodworking community can. But if you are in the market for a shed/small hobby or crafts dwelling, or guest room, these are drop dead gorgeous! If you buy one at the big box store, you'll get a smaller unit and it's banged together with nail guns and particle board and other substandard methods and materials at the same price. If you buy one of these you are supporting these students. Now granted you should probably live pretty close to the Boston Mass area, as you'll be responsible for pick up and or shipping. I am very impressed with these sheds, they are a very, very good bargain. Here is a quote from their page: Each year, our Preservation Carpentry students build several custom sheds as part of their first-year training. There is one beautiful shed left available for sale! - 10' x 12' stick framed with a red cedar roof - Clapboarded front elevation, and other 3 sides are shingled with white cedar - Custom-built white oak double doors on one gable end - Three tilt-in, 9 lite windows - Front door is reclaimed and has custom jamb unit with new hardware and lock with keys - Cost: $6,500 - Clients are responsible for moving costs, though we have a shed mover available To purchase, please email sheds@nbss.edu. So there you have it, another thing, those 9 lite windows? Hand made, yep, that's right, they are handmade by the students with hand tools! The craftsmanship is impeccable. Shout out to @MikeCG, I know you are interested in attending this school, this is related
  2. Hey folks, just saw this online by a fellow who I guess is just a shopper in Texas, and was impressed by this structure for $16,000. Could we build one less expensive? Sure. But the point he is making, delivery and set up included, it's not a bad price I think? If you have the property, and you want a quick solution to a shop or mom n law quarters or? And of course you have the funding available. If you made this into liveable space, I think the overall cost could get up there. But what if you just wanted to insulate and Pine T&G the walls or drywall and make it a woodworking shop, most of us could do the electrical ourselves, so really it may not be that bad of a price for a shop. For many here it would be too small with all your machinery and stuff, but for many of us it would be just right? What do you all think?
  3. Hi, my mother-in-law has a storage shed on her property. It’s about 27 years old, neighbors tree fell on shed, roof no longer rain tight. Shed was an cheapie, did a great job lasting this long. Doors are sagging/rotting, roof has moss growing on it, particle board has become fall-aparticle-board. So I’m trying to find out whether it’s more cost advisable to buy a new, already made one(probably not), buy a precut kit, and assemble (maybe, but quality could still be an issue), or just get a set of plans build it myself, well with some help of course (I’m thinking this is the most inexpensive, and fun, but also most work). To price out the build it myself, I need plans. Due to my MIL’s yard/driveway layout, we’re looking for a shed that is 8 feet X 12 feet. We need the door to be one the 8 foot end, and maybe a window or two for light. I found a set of plans that do this, but the rafters, joists, etc seem to be 24 inches on center, I think for strength and snow loads up here in NE I’m wanting 16 inches on center. So any recommendations for where I can get good plans would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any help or suggestions, Artie PS I have checked the laws/rules/regulations and no permit is required for sheds 120 sq feet or less.
  4. Its not much (and its missing the door...) but its mine. I included my heater and dog butt LOL
  5. Well, it is wood. I'm going slow and steady with this. It's coming along. It's really a large space once you are inside.
