Walked down to the garden this morning and I see the garlic is starting to poke through the leaf mulch. I guess spring can't be too far away. Don't forget to turn your clocks forward this Saturday night or you will be late to Sunday School! Our Patriot Turners- @Gerald took some time to rearrange his turning area. No easy feat and he will probably looking for where he put stuff for some time to come! Our members all sympathized with the amount of work required to do this. You can see their comments in Gerald's post- @Masonsailor Took a break from his media room redo and played on the lathe. Paul decided to turn a Top and it's a beauty. Our turners had lots of questions and comments about how the hardware and his processes. Check out Paul's post, here- A couple of weeks ago @Bob Hodge was asking about wet sanding techniques and products. Well, Bob made the leap and he tells us about his results. We appreciate Bob's follow-up and giving us his findings- @RustyFN Tried his hand at segmented turning. He said it was his first time at this but judging from the results, I have to wonder . As you might expect, the kudos were flying for this beauty! Rusty also gave us an insight into some of his processes for cutting the segments- In one of our other forums, Rusty shared his lumber score. You know some guys can fall in "it" and come out smelling like a rose. That's our Rusty!! Just look at what he picked up! He already has it broken down into turning blanks! A little more on his good luck here- @AndrewB is working on another pepper grinder. He is turning this one from Bhilwara. It is a beautiful wood and should look awesome on the table! I used LED in-line skate wheels and the material seems like it won't mar the turnings and yet is firm enough to keep the turning in place. Right now I am finishing up the Sketchup drawings that I used as plans. Probably not necessary but I need the Sketchup practice. A short video of the first test run. I have four chargers for my DC powered tools. I started with Sears 12V batteries, that didn't last long. Now I have 3 diffrent brands, due to receiving gifts and now a 40 volt mower battery. My work area is very small and limited. I've moved things around and now have the batteries/chargers kind of organized. How do you store you DC equipment?

I am continuing my effort to organize my garage/shop to make it easier to do projects and woodworking. Today I made french cleat hanger above my workbench for a pre-cut 24"x48" pegboard. I also completed a little shelf to put the battery chargers on and get them thar darn things off my bench. The only reason I am posting is to provide an example of how I hung the pegboard. I made a frame the size of the pegboard with the end pieces extending out of the top to provide a hanger for the pegboard from the french cleat. Because the french cleat was higher than I wanted the pegboard I had to extend those pieces to make the pegboard low enough. The frame is made out of 3/4" plywood 2" wide. The joints are butt joints with pocket screws and glue. From the pictures below you may see that I braced the hanger with some corner braces. Having most of my stuff on french cleats allows me to reorganize and move things. I am glad I have done this because it has been really handy. What did I learn: I should have drawn the project before I executed.; I wound up cutting the french cleat shorter than I wanted but I was able to accommodate the mistake. I should have cut one more 2" strip to use as a spacer at the bottom of the pegboard which offsets the frame the thickness of the wall-mounted french cleat. I used leftover blocks as spacers. It works but not ask neat as I'd like. Using 2" strips as the frame results in the loss of two rows of pegboard holes on each edge. Look before you drill. When pre-drilling the holes to mount the pegboard to the frame I hit a pocket screw and destroyed my brad-point drill bit. Pegboard hooks and accessories use to come with an extra little nib on them to help hold them in place. Now they come with little plastic clips. DO NOT install the clips before you are certain you have the hook where you want it. The clips are a pain to get out. SAFETY NOTE! When ripping wood, hang onto that piece between the fence and the blade. I had a momentary lapse of concentration and a 2"x48" strip shot off the table saw like a missile. It missed the motorcycle by mere inches and done a number on one of the garage door pivot hinges. If I had been in front of it, I am guessing it would have hurt like the dickens. Enjoy.
