My grandson asked for a showcase to display a Lego 3D puzzle he painstakingly assembled. Started it before Christmas and finally got it done. Here is the assembled puzzle. Here is the assembled case. I fretted over how to cut the acrylic and found a negative rake saw blade was best to for sawing it. I had bought a negative rake tooth saw blade for my radial arm saw and kept it when I got rid of it. Put the blade on the table saw and it worked swimmingly. Cut like butter and no chips or breaks even when trimming just a sliver off. The top is removable as is the plastic sheet to aid in the placement of the puzzle. We'll peel the protective film off the acrylic when the puzzle is placed inside. for reference it's 20"LX13"DX15"H.

A c.1989 Delta Motorized Miter Saw made it's way into my basement. All 70 lbs of it. After a few cuts, I noticed the blade gave me a ragged edge. Thinking it was dull, I ordered a 60T blade while I thought about sharpening services. Oshlun SBW-100060N 10-Inch 60 Tooth Negative Hook Finishing ATB Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor for Sliding Miter and Radial Arm Saws The one that came off is a Freud 50T. They both have the laid-back angle to the teeth. The Oshlun is billed as "radial arm / sliding miter saw blade". Despite not saying "chop saw", I believe it was @Gene Howe who recommended "negative rake". So I have the right blade? I did not realize the Freud was a 50T. But I'm hoping the 60T and different grouping will produce a smoother cut. Saw blade insecurity strikes! Thinking maybe the Makita 80T from HD, $30 less, might have been better. But HD is a quagmire of temptation. So, even if I'm not thrilled with the Oshlun 60T, what happens if I use it in a table saw? The gentler angle will require a slower cut?

Beautiful day today, 67° and sunny. Tomorrow, winter weather advisory. Ahh, spring time in PA. Our Patriot Turners- @BillyJack asked our members for input on some turning tools. Several gave their recommendations on what he might consider. I hope he posts the tools he gets so we can all drool over his choices! @Gerald gave us a look at some of the turnings that were done at the last club meeting. Hard to believe but only two more days left in April! Really looking forward to summer weather. Our Patriot Turners- @Gerald gave us a peek at his shop made parting tool. Unlike a lot of parting tools, this one cuts cleanly. Gerald explains how he created this tool, in his post- @RustyFN posted his almost completed combination bowl. This one is a beauty and combines multiple disciplines. Rusty got lots of positive comments on his work. You can read them in this update to his original thread- Rusty also provide a bit of sage advice. It is self explanatory- @AndrewB is finishing up a pepper mill in which he combined 2 species. They really look nice together- Andrew explains more about this turning in this posting- Andrew also mentioned his wishes to improve his dust collection. Maybe you have some ideas that he could incorporate. What’s Coming Up- Click on the above image for the link to registration For The Newbies- Sanding is one way to remove tool marks. However, a better way is to avoid them as much as possible. Here's a video explaining the possible causes of the marks and what you can so to help reduce them during the turning process- This is another video in the beginners series, from Mike Waldt. Everything Else- Tim Yoder is having fun with this project to be gifted to a friend Rick Turns' list of woodturning YouTube videos from last week- I finished up the little natural edge bowl I had been messing with. I like the shape but I think I can do better by using less of the logs diameter and making the piece a little longer. I think that will give the piece a flatter more pleasing look. Anyway, used wipe on gloss poly for this one. I'm getting better at making the walls thinner, too. Safe turning and stay well

Hello all, By the size of the box that came to my wife yesterday, I anticipate a HSS negative rake scraper for my bowls. I am presently working on a spalted maple, crotchwood piece that shows a lot of promise, yet has been giving me some grief along the way. I'm having some good experience with PC Petrifier to stabilize the soft wood without sealing it so much that an oil finish will not penetrate. Anyway, two questions: . Should a negative rake scraper have a burr? . A poor man might ask why one couldn't simply take a regular scraper and tilt it down toward the bowl. What's the difference? Thanks, as always. Robert

Our Patriot Turners- @Ron Altier created another beautiful ornament. Ron has a magical talent for design and color! Along with the picture, Ron asked our opinion on making it into a tree topper. If you can provide some insight on his questions, please let him know. Ron is this weeks big winner in the number of posts department! Using input from his negative rake cutters question, he showed us the gorgeous acrylic egg he turned. In his post, Ron tells us a little about his experiences. Ron gave us a heads up on a cool video for an open segmented turning. The video author sure has a light touch and sharp tools! And another video where the author turns an unusual object. I found this especially interesting in light of a question asked by member @FrederickH concerning the use files as turning tools. Check out the parting tool at about 6:32 @Masonsailor continues his work on the lazy susan tulips. He showed us the trimmed out "home" for it! He noticed the latest issue of Woodcraft Magazine pictured a turner working without a face shield and was wearing long sleeves. We had a great discussion as our turners provided their thoughts. I had an old piece of locust that might have made a nice shallow bowl. I was getting a lot of tearout so I decided to experiment with different speeds and different negative rake cutters. I found that, for the outside of the bowl, the Ci2-NR2 (2" radius, rougher, negative rake) is awesome at high speeds. Unfortunately the blank had a defect that I didn't see. I still haven't found all of the pieces! Safe turning and stay well

It was more than a hunnert dollahs It was the Glen Lucas one. Anyway I was jonesing to try it So I got myself a hunk of cheap steel bar 3/8" x 1" And I rummaged up a half inch hunk of hardened High speed Steel ( a metal lathe tool bit) TIG Welded 'em together and got this
