  1. As you know, I've had to end my woodworking days because of age issues. I've been offered $800,00 for the Laguna 14/12 bandsaw- I feel it is a low offer. Just wondering what everyone thinks. Selling it is difficult, but I know I won't be using it again myself.
  2. Is Laguna Tools still a sponsor of TPW? I see they are no longer listed on the initial landing page, but are still listed as a sponsor in the links section at the bottom of the screen. What's up?

    Morris Son Turning

    From the album: Shaker Furniture

Soon after I had the blank in the lathe, my son walked in and I put him to work on roughing out the blank, he did a pretty nice job for his first time and Easy Wood Tools really helped in his learning curve.
  4. Can you believe it, school is starting this week!!! I don't think I'll miss substituting. Our Patriot Turners- Our sponsors Laguna and Easy Wood Tools are awesome. Both sponsors are doing their part to help our veterans by supporting the "Vets Turn" program. This video, from Laguna Tools, gives us an idea just how much the Vets Turn program means to those participating. You may remember @PostalTom started a chess set for his grandson. Well he has finished all the chess pieces and they look marvelous! Tom tells us about this part of his adventure and what comes next- @RustyFN finished up the lidded box he made for his Mrs. and it is awesome! We showed the "before" picture of the Milliput bands and now we get to see the how it turned out- Lots of great comments from our turners- Rusty is this week's winner for the most turning related posts. He was lucky enough to score these turning accessories, and more, from his local Woodcraft store- Check out the complete list- What’s Coming Up- SWAT is happening this coming weekend. Several turners will be doing live remotes. I received this email from Lyle Jamieson explaining how to see the streaming videos from Cindy Drozda and Todd Raines For Tod's, use this link- https://www.youtube.com/c/WoodturningToolStore For Cindy's, use this link- https://www.youtube.com/user/cindydrozda/featured The Mid-Atlantic Woodturning Symposium has posted their list of demonstrators- The link for registration- http://www.mawts.com/registration/ For The Newbies- Looking for inspirations for creating new turnings? Mike Peace's video has some ideas Episode #6 from Cindy Drozda's bottle stopper series- Expand Your Horizons- From the AAW- Looking for something different to embellish your turnings? Maybe Carol Hall has something you'll find attractive- Alan Stratton makes an unusual jewelry tray for a wedding present. Check out the shop made jaws for his scroll chuck- More and more prominent turners are turning (no pun intended) to multiple social media platforms to share their knowledge. No longer is YouTube the only source of information for the isolated turner. Although platforms like Facebook and Instagram are the bane of most of us over the age of 50 (far over, for me), I am finding more and more information available from folks like Cindy Drozda, Lyle Jamieson, Jim Echter etc. If you have a Facebook account, maybe checkout some of your favorite turners. As an example- https://www.facebook.com/732440147/videos/799343681075338 New Turning Items- Maybe something new will show up at SWAT. Everything Else- Rick Turns list of YouTube woodturning videos from last week- Safe turning

  6. Well, I finally got the Laguna bandsaw from the fundraiser in December. It got delivered on Friday, Apr 2. It took me awhile to get it all together and set up properly. At least I hope it is set up properly. I made a cut to check blade drift, and I can't see any drift at all. And that is with the fence locked up square to the table with no adjustments. I am posting a picture of that cut, showing a marked line, and the cut line slightly off from the marked line to see it it wandered at all, and it looks perfect to me. The lighting in the picture of the bandsaw is weird, but that is because I normally have a "corn" light in that room that I purchased from Rockler. That is a very bright light, and it flooded out the picture, so I had to remove it and put in a weaker flood light to get a better picture. So here are the pictures.
  7. Laguna just announced! https://lagunatools.com/classic/planers/px12/?utm_campaign=PX Planers%2FJX Jointers Launch&utm_medium=email&_hsmi=116781021&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_o2f9LgxJrWx_7Dowjc8LYzwNX2NDGsBdYoZhmUx4jzydGP0-IJCXX-RFbR2YGBeJgODnEUXKQftGNTQ_ZGKqXr4kEHA&utm_content=116781021&utm_source=hs_email
  8. VetsTurn Application deadline is fast approaching. These applications need to be submitted by October 31, 2020. This video contains the information needed to apply. If you know a veteran that could benefit from this turning package, please contact them!
  9. I have a Delta 1 1/2 HP dust collector in my shop that for the most part does a good job. I have 4" PVC pipe run to all of my machines and usually only have one gate open at a time. However there are times when I have help in the shop and we are using multiple machines and just don't get enough air flow to pull on the machines. My Delta table saw is the worse of the bunch. I have the overhead guard/dust collector and pulling off the bottom but it just doesn't get the enough pull. I am thinking of going to a 3 hp to get the higher CFM's and to allow multiple machines to run at the same time. I have been reading a few reviews but no real good comparisons. I really like the looks of the Laguna, but the few reviews I have read were not good, talking about leaks and missing parts and trouble getting replacement parts. Have any of you seen a recent comparison by any of the Wood Working Magazines lately? I would really be interested in what they have to say.
  10. It's been a few months since I won the raffle, winning the $500.00 gift certificate from Laguna Tools. I've finally gotten it set up in my shop, so thought it was time to post a photo.
  11. Did y'all see this? I think this is a good thing - two good companies. 12. I was perusing the Laguna Tools CNC customer stories and came upon this pretty awesome business, they build wooden mountain bikes, here is the Laguna page at https://lagunatools.com/customer-stories/savvy-cycles-wood-on-wheels/ Link to Savvy Cycles http://www.savvy-cycles.com/bikes.html The projects you can create by CNC are vast and endless it seems, how cool is that!

    Chair Post Blank

    From the album: Shaker Furniture

After ripping my post blank to 1 5/8" square by 45" long, I had to flatten it on the jointer, after ripping the post blank out, it stressed and bent a tad, the blank should be absolutely straight before setting it up in the lathe.
