Before I tried bowls heavily, I started with an oak glue up and couldn't finish it because I was using a face plate at the time and didn't even have the right tools for the job or even a proper chuck for that matter. Now that I have the proper tools including the chuck I think its down right time to finish this one off. I had completely forgotten about this one doing a little bit of organizing in the shed/shop I found it tucked away. So I did a bit of turning on it evened it out and cut a tenon onto it. I had to straighten it up quite a bit because it was completely way out of whack but it should make for a nice piece in the long run. Should have a proper hss bowl gouge by Thursday so I should be able to fully hollow this thing out over the weekend. New bowl blanks arrive tomorrow so I think I'm set for a bit on that.

Stumble down to the shop this morning. Raised panel needed fine tuned, before any glue was used. Spokeshave, and a couple other planes to reduce any "fat spots" along the beveled edges. Sandpaper on a block of wood to refine some spots.....finally thought I could spread some Elmer's, and dig out some clamps.. Square and a tape measure showed things weren't quite squared up, so that diagonal clamp to pull it back to square. Better view? That is the spokeshave I used. let this forest of clamps sit a awhile....... Ok, stumbled back down, and checked on the glued up lid. Started removing the clamps....slowly, listening for any weird sounds...Other than dropping one of the clamps...NADA, sooo.. Sat the glued up lid on top of the box, noting where the front and back sides were to go. Will add a filler to un-do that bowed in side. AFTER this has cured for awhile. More views? A few holes to fill in, about the way things go in my shop. Thinking of adding a "bead" just below and above the opening. Bead? Something like these two? Stanley #45 can make these thing fairly quickly. Just have to set the plane up to mill the beads. Now, I think I'll just go and sit down for a while.....and let the Elmer's cure out...

I got into my small scrap wood yesterday, there are some exotic pieces too. I glued, cut, glued, etc, until I had 8 squares, turned them into about 8 circles. Then cut some Yellow heart in pieces, glued them in between the others and turned it all down. When I turned this down it came out nice, however I was a bit disappointed at the results. I'll make a contrasting top and bottom for another ornament. You gotta have a LOT of patience to do that. One small miscue and it will have a flaw that you didn't see coming.

I dug deep in my exotic wood scrap box and I think I have it pretty much cleaned out. I have spent the last couple of days cutting and gluing I am going to make some crochet hooks and more christmas bulbs. That is, if I don't have any major mess ups
