  1. After adding flush mount LED ceiling lights to our living room and kitchen in 2017 we wished we had added them to our family room. I finally got around to this project this week. The current fan is centered with the room and we had thought that we wanted to move it so that it would be centered with the fireplace. After adding tape to the ceiling to verify light locations we decided to leave the fan in its current location. We would have to moving the fan 24” to have it centered with the fireplace and we thought we then might have a strobing effect with the new lighting. The four new LED lights are controlled with two different wire routings so that two lights can be shut off while watching TV. All the lights are controlled with dimmer switches and two lights are wired for 3-way switching. With the new ceiling fan not having a light kit, the room has the appearance of being larger (yea). I want to give a shout out and big thanks to Artie. He answered a few of my questions along the way which was helpful and gave me confidence. Thanks for looking. Danl Picture of the family room with the old fan and light kit. Picture of the family room with new lighting and fan (two lights not shown).
  2. Good day folks, we are looking at Whole House Fans, our early evenings and nights are very cool outside, and we would love to get that cool air into our hot home instead of the AC. Any recommendations in brands or technology? Thanks!
  3. Back in 2014 someone gave me a old house furnace fan assembly. At the time I made a quick sled and put in under my crawlspace. Had a timer to go off every 4 hours for 30 minutes. Works well on dealing with damp musty smell. Well the fan motor died. So I had to drag it out and decided now was good time to do some rehab work. Replaced a few pieces that as scrap were okay but since I had to drag it out for the motor, we are fixing it up. Buddy gave me a new motor he had unused so I installed that after I painted the framework. Wiring needed some cleaning up. And finally done screwing with the motor I set the cage so it sits correctly. Then plugged it in and turned it on. OOOPS. Had this on my bench and pointed toward ceiling. Instant Sawdust Storm. Even the cat that sleeps in the loft came down and left. Dragged it back into the crawlspace and put it back and plugged it up. All done, just took a few days to get everything in order.
  4. Like most having a fan is a must sometimes. Whether it be for the heat, to aid with drying, or just air circulation. But the thing is always in the way, taking up real estate on a bench you would be happier full of more junk,.... I mean stuff. At first I mounted it to the ceiling and put it on a plate that swiveled. Worked but still in the way and was a pain to take down. Then someone gave me some t channel track for a garage door. Now this had potential. Made a carriage to slide on the track and mounted the fan. It already swiveled up and down all I needed was side to side. The track allows me to move it back and forth along that side of the wall. Took some trial and error as I worked out various kinks. Was going to balance the thing so it could be moved one handed. Hung a c clamp on the end of a stick and figured out the weight. Finally asked myself why am I screwing with this. You have two hands, lets paint this and get on to something else. LOL Small project, not much time but nice to get the thing out of the way when needed, but always ready to go. Enjoy, be inspired.
  5. This window mounted fan support is a long overdue shop upgrade project. Every time I spray lacquer I had to rig the fan to stay in the window (it fell once and bent the blades). And it didn't work very well, either. As much air came in the window as the fan blew out. Also, every bug that got near the window got sucked in by the vortex on the periphery of the fan. This is much, much better! Enjoy! David
