  8. The Drawing Dear all, our contributors/donors names have been extracted from our data base and the personal checks we received were included as well, the single and multiple name entries were hand entered into a text (.txt) file by the amount contributed, the text file was then copy and pasted into an online Random Name Picker. As the names were drawn, they were assigned to each item provided by our sponsors in the same order as listed at the Warrior Family Project Page. I wish all who contributed could walk away with something, but I know that was not your priority, the family was at the center of all this, and I greatly appreciate that from you all. Recipients We'd like to congratulate the following recipients of the wonderful machinery and tools donated by our sponsors. Laguna 14|12 Bandsaw - @PostalTom Easy Wood Tools Parting Tool - @Masonsailor Easy Wood Tools Parting Tool - @Steve Krumanaker Woodriver Standard Block Plane with Adjustable Mouth - @Cliff Woodriver No.4 Bench Plane - Alfred Tickell Our Sponsors We also want to issue a hearty thanks to our sponsors of this annual tradition here at The Patriot Woodworker. Woodcraft Supply, Easy Wood Tools, and Laguna Tools, thank you for all your support in the past, now, and hopefully into the future. We are very appreciative of your support, we couldn't do any of this without your help. What's Next For our prize recipients, please message myself with your shipping address, so I can inform our sponsors where to ship your item. Also, within the next two weeks, we'll be doing the financial review of this project and once we get it all squared away and the numbers jive, we'll disclose the results here, and a check will be drawn for the remaining funds to be sent to the Hine family. I am thinking, and this is just an off the top of my head estimate, we brought in just under 3000.00 and we should be able to get a check out to the family in the range of 1500.00, I am sure this will help get them off to a better 2021. Remember, 100 percent of your contributions go to the family project. Thank you all once again, I am personally very proud of what you all accomplished here for the Hine Family, I know our Admins and Staff are proud of your efforts as well. You all did this, we just stood by and watched it happen, we are forever grateful for all you do Patriot Woodworker's and Guests, and so are the families we support each year.
  9. Another Christmas is here As you all know, every year we adopt a wounded warrior or gold star family for Christmas and we all come together and provide Christmas presents and food for that family, I am proud to announce that today we have been invited back to Operation Ward 57 Adopt a Family For Christmas event for 2020. I am very proud that they keep having us back, and I am very proud of the big way you all come through for these families in the past. I just completed the application and I submitted it just seconds ago, later this month we'll know who our family is, and how many kids we are supporting! Our Past Projects Follow this link and scroll towards the bottom of that page to see some of our past projects with Operation Ward 57 Thank you In advance, I'd like to thank all of you who will no doubt participate in this annual tradition of ours to bring a little happiness to a warrior family for Christmas 2020! Stay tuned for your marching orders, and here's to another great Christmas Season! As always, 100 percent of the proceeds for our fundraiser raffle will go to the family project.
  10. So, I've tried my hand at SMALL carving with both hand chisels and with my Dremel. Yea, I'm not so great. However my 13 year old had to do a school project (Chinese wood block printing) and I had to show her how to use the chisels and my Dremel. She preferred the chisels because "that's cheating" (the Dremel). The brat is WAY better than I am with the chisels (and honestly, with the Dremel too) lol I called her a "disgusting brat" which made her laugh lol Now the other girls (12 and 9) want to try too.
  11. To all our members, friends, and TPW family in California: I hope everyone has been missed by the terrible onslaught of wildfires. Stay safe, stay aware, and maybe leave a post to let us know everyone is all right.
  12. I have watched this episode many times and I still love it. About a minute in is when the spotlight on the Moulthrop family begins, and what a family! I am amazed at the turnings the patriarch of the family created, and the younger is an absolute genus with his turnings. My favorite is the sticks in the bucket with epoxy he does, then turns the blanks to create these incredible multiple species turnings. Take a look at the video, and have fun. 13. We are proud to announce that we have been selected to Adopt a Family for Christmas by Operation Ward 57. Let us introduce you to the father and Wounded Warrior of the family as pictured left, his name is Joe McGlaughlin, he served in Iraq for 18 months during his time in service from 2004 to 2014. SGT. McGlaughlin received a Traumatic Brain Injury and hearing loss during a convoy mission when an Improvised Explosive Device was detonated by a convoy that was passing his convoy. Along with his physical injuries he is suffering from PTSD as well. Since his return to the civilian world SGT. McGlauphlin suffered a stroke, and to top it all off he fell 40ft and fractured his skull and broke his pelvis. But, within all this chaos Joe is a family man, he has a wonderful wife with two sons and they are now our family. The Patriot Woodworkers are proud to show our thanks and appreciation for the service Mr. McGlaughlin provided our nation. And we want to show our appreciation by just simply giving. We also want to thank Operation Ward 57 for allowing us this opportunity to pay it back. Donate cash to the cause and you are entered into our tool giveaway. 100 percent of the proceeds will be used to purchase gift cards for our family at the following locations. Stater Brothers for a Christmas meal Amazon.com for the boys Christmas gifts Walmart for mama, she loves shopping there And yet to be determined, a gift card from any Rock Shop for dad, he is a rock hound and he loves polishing rocks If you would like to just simply give without being entered into our big tool giveaway, please contact us at [email protected] for kids clothing sizes, shoe sizes, and a detailed wish list from the two boys. This is our chance to show our appreciation for a great family, who both served and sacrificed much in the way of their own physical well being and mental stress by having loved ones deployed to the combat zone. This is what we do best Patriot Woodworkers, it's time to put our gloves on and get to work! Thank you all so much in advance for caring, you are the best! 14. About time to update this bunch of planes The whole Fan-damnily The long guy is a 14" long #14 Jack, there are three (3!!!) #9 smoothers in the middle, with their poorer cousin #8 on the end. That little guy (the Baby) is a low angle #1455 block plane. The block plane and one of the #9s came with their original box. Not quite sure on "type' at the moment. As for those #9s They seem to think they are something "Special" A look at the rears Somewhere in the new tool chest, there is a Millers Falls 8" brace. With a BIG, hulking chuck on it's end. Didn't feel like digging him out. Well, that is the Millers Falls family, at the moment...
