  1. I visited the widow of a long time friend that passed away recently. We sorted thru some of the stationary power tools and their accessories for sale. Next will be portable power tools, then the hardware store and lumber yard, as she put it. One of the things he did was turning little decorative "bird houses" that were ornament sized. He had a few pieces of exotic wood roughly 2x2x10 and a piece of ebony that he never got to. What would be a good way to find a turner who might be interested? There were also a bunch of "half logs" probably destined for bowls.
  2. Yesterday it was chilly, but the sun was shining in my shop (garage) I cleaned up the place and in the process, I picked up every scrap piece of exotic wood I could find. Some are left overs, some are old projects I stopped and the rest are odds and ends. I will make something out of most of it and I hope to get some more wood soon. I don't go out to shop much, but I do go when the crowd isn't there, very early in the morning on a week day. I go pick what I want and get out quickly. I can order wood delivered, but I want to see what I buy first. I have all my Christmas gifts made, so I think that if the weather holds up, I'll go after Christmas or New Years.
  3. I had a very small perfect 4 sided angular scrap piece. (the bottom part) It laid in my scrap box for a long time and the more I looked over it the more I wanted to make an ornament out of it. I did turn the small centerpiece and cut the top angular piece. That top piece was a real challenge. The whole ornament isn't much more more than 4" long. I cut most angles on the table saw, using small clamps to secure it and cut safely. After all that it did come out nice, but a bit ugly and lacking Christmas colors. Maybe an ugly frozen ornament crystal Something a woodworker appreciates, not so much for others.
  4. So I apologize if this topic comes up so often your tired of seeing it...... but Do you have a favorite source for buying exotic turning stock? I've been using Woodcraft and Cormark. Any other favorite places to go? Thanks
  5. Just finished this one. Made of exotic wood scraps and the background dark wood stripes is Burnt Poplar, I finally found a use for the small board I had. I had forgotten that one of the dark red woods drives my allergy nuts. Even tho I used protection, it got me again. Its 8"x10"
  6. I have been enjoying all the images in our new gallery and lately one of our members is really putting on a show for us! I'd like to give Mike Mathieu a big hand for his instarsia work. Great job Mike! Absolutely beautiful! Click on image to be taken to Mikes Gallery.
