    Eucalyptus Vase

    From the album: Hollow Forms

Eucalyptus has a story. This is the regular side on the other side iot is spalted. Was working on this and I left in a plastic bag and the down side spalted but not the top.
  2. I am thinking I probably cannot buy the wood for what they want for this. But I have no idea how the wood holds up under weather. Sheltered from rain, but full sun for more than half the day. It might need a top coat sooner rather than later. https://www.menards.com/main/outdoors/patio-furniture/patio-benches-swings/backyard-creations-reg-wood-patio-bench/302004-29/p-9967014799102715-c-13018.htm?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=13D3-2021(1)&utm_content=Wood-Patio-Furniture&spMailingID=33193666&spUserID=MjU4NTYyOTUyNzAS1&spJobID=1904190266&spReportId=MTkwNDE5MDI2NgS2
  3. Dangit!! That's why we call it learning right! I'll hang this one up as a reminder.
  4. From the album: Spoon Carving

    The beginnings, I am ready!
  5. From the album: Spoon Carving

The spoon is roughed out, and I carved the shape with a couple sloyd style knives.

    Eucalpytus Split

    From the album: Spoon Carving

I procured this little branch for a wood pile at work, it's green, and I split it using a forest axe and beat the axe head with another small log till it split. I really need to get a froe.
  7. From the album: Spoon Carving

I roughed out the spoon blank with my Japanese Hatchet and thought I'd bring out my new hatchet by Robin Woods and give it a try to bring the blank to fine rough. I like the new hatchet, it performed well in curves.
  8. From the album: Spoon Carving

The spoon needs to be dished out, I'll do that after it has dried overnight.

    Chopping Area

    From the album: Spoon Carving

I didn't need much, just an old log for a workbench, a stool to sit on, and a few tools. I really like this spoon carving, I set the spoon in the shop overnight to dry a bit, then I'll be able to refine the entire spoon tomorrow after much of the moisture has evaporated, and I should have a fully functional cooking spoon.
  10. From the album: Spoon Carving

The bottom of the spoon, it's a lot of work, but well worth it, I love the journey to get it this far.

  13. Any of you California Residents see the trees starting to produce any? I was there, a Patriot woodworker looked for me, neither us us saw a single pod. What about now? Do you se pods developing now that there's been some rain? Pods man, I need pods. Help a woodworker out., I'll pay money for it. you can donate it if you want.
  14. Ok turners, I got a log! Found it on the roadside in a stack of other logs from the same tree, it's about 12" diameter and 18" long, has the bark on as you can see, and it's wet! It weighs about 60 pounds or more, I think. What would yall do with it first, to prep if for turning? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
