  1. Maybe your old enough to remember your grandparents/great grandparents crank up "Gramophone" with the big horn phonograph or maybe they had the later "Victrola" with the internal horn built into the cabinet or if they had electricity they may have had an "Orthophonic Victrola" AKA as "Electrola" with the Electrola soundbox pickup introduced in 1925. I've been wanting to build a rolling cabinet for my Windows 11 Pro build computer/monitor/usb turntable and after talking a few times with my neighbor "Bruce" he mentioned why not build a "Victrola" style case. We're both fans of the "Golden Oak" era so I kind of liked the idea. The clincher came when Bruce pulled out an old store display of none other than the "Nipper" that stands about 2.5 ft. tall. (I'm still trying to talk him out of that!) That and the fact that I have access to Bruce's salvage furniture pieces he's collected over the years which included this lid and other items. The case will fit on the Larkin desk I'm rebuilding/refinishing which has castors. Guess I'd have to say I heard "His Masters Voice" and the build is on. Here's some of those "Salvage" and "Curb Shopping" items. I've been getting a little done here and there working around the weather and vehicle problems but will have to take some photos later to show what I've got done later when I can. SWMBO is done with car, so I better go change that window regulator so the window will stay up.
  2. 3/4 ash, FD #3 Polar Blades throughout. Red food dye on the Rose, rattle can poly after staining. I'm having issues with the finish, the wood soaked up the poly fast. The picture is with 4 coats of poly and there were areas where I couldn't get enough spay on to get a good surface coat. Finishing fretwork has some unique problems, anyone care to chime in?

  4. Cpl. Matthew Conley was only two or three days away from returning home to Killen, Alabama from Iran in 2014. He was training his replace went the unthinkable happened. The Hummve He was in hit an IED and took his life. He was returning home to a wife and new baby. His Family was devastated to learn the news when two marines showed up on Sunday morning following the event to tell the family. They have created a foundation in his Memory and honor. To raise money they recently held a Cornhole tournament and the Killen Founders day event. We had a booth set up across from them. They had borrowed cornhole boards for the tournament but saw the custom ones we had. They were using plywood boards and approached us about making some special boards for this years event. They called my son and got with him and these are two of the sets they wanted. As Josh was putting the decals on the boards he said it brought tears to his eyes and chills up his spine as he thought about the price Cpl. Matthew Conley paid for his freedom. How thankful we we were to be ask to participate in this and build a first class set of Cornhole boards for their tournament. The set with the Marine logo is Cherry, the set with the full American Flag is Poplar. They turned out really nice and they were excited to have them to use in their tournament this year.

  6. Good day folks, we have been contacted by Virgie, she hit us up at our contact form at www.thepatriotwoodworker.com and she saw some of the fabulous work our Patriot Woodworkers have done in the past at our home page site. She wrote us this. Hello, I found your site by luck and admired the wood pieces you have designed. I wondered if you make and sell small tea boxes with a single compartment? We wrote her this Hello Virgie, we have many talented craftsmen in our club, would you like me to get you in touch with one? I am sure someone can build anything you need at a reasonable cost. Cheers! So, if anyone here wishes to have a little side paid gig, please Private Message me and I will give you her email for you to contact, she has indicated that she would love it if someone from here would take this task on.
