  1. Well? Start out with a small roll-around tool chest. . Bottom compartment was missing it's shelves....Can always add some, IF needed.. Top chest did have a few "treasures" in it.. 1 good wrench, so-so pliers, gauge for spark plug gaps...and 3 spanners. Look carefully at the lid...there is a Blue Grass nail set sticking to the metal lid. Also dug out of the top compartment... A decent 5/16" wrench, a pin punch, 2 SMALL screwdrivers, 7/16" nutdriver, flexi sharpening sticks, a sharpening hone, and 3 files. Yep, that be a corncob handle..tossed thewee screwdriver wannabe. Driver bit is a long, hex shank, slotted bit...next, the top drawer.. May just toss these. Middle drawer? Wrench may get tossed. Brightyellow handle is an Irwin....more on that can opener in a bit...bottom drawer? Interesting selection. That skinny thing is a 4" XSlim saw file. 2 cold chisels could use a little cleaning up...not sure about the chisel, Crestoloy Wrench. Goodies? The small saw file. The nail set is by Blue Grass Center punch is by Herbrandt...now, about that can opener? Ring a bell with anyone? From BEFORE Pull tabs were even used.... same Yard Sale, bought 2 pair of "Cheap Sunglasses" for a dollar...total for that sale? $4.. Not too bad of a morning?
  2. Friday and Sat. , The games was afoot! Not much in the budget for the 2 days, either...only had $12 in me pocket. First day? Well, one place had these. That strange looking screwdriver is a MAC.....$2 so far...drove just outside of town...said there was "tools"...dug through a "tray" of rusty tool shaped objects...didn't NEED any foot long screwdrivers...but..nose was itching a bit, dug down a bit further... I tend to shake hollow handles..sometimes there are bits inside..That North Bros ( pre-Stanley) No. 41? yep it made a bit of noise ( pun intended) 6 bits IN the handle, another in the chuck....Fifty cents a piece for these 2.....didn't need the entire tray, anyway.. Survived the storm Friday night....Saturday morning, had some things to do..then returned to the first sale from Friday..to see what was left over... 26" long, 10ppi cross cut Disston D-8....made about 1955-56 era....when HK Porter had just bought out Disston...still a nice, comfy saw to use... Just no brass bolts..not a biggie. price? Hmm...yeah. went looking at a couple other Saturday only sales....lots of clothes, no tools... Well, to the north is the village of Belle Center....they had a 2 day village wide sale going on.....drove around a few sales...nose was calm....was going to stop at a place for some Ice Cream ( was a very hot day) when the nose went haywire....tables, and a wagon..filled with..tools. A bit of digging around... There was supposed to be a fourth chisel in the set ( 12mm) Looked over the pipe clamps the fellow had...three had "issues", settled for the fourth one.. Will need to soak those threads in PBblaster...should be ok after that...so, how much did he want? $3.... Then went and got the ice cream...and then went back home. BTW: the first sale's location? Seems that Friday night storm had split an old, BIG Maple tree out in front of the property...landing in the street. This morning, when we came back..they had things off the street, and were turning it into firewood.... That pipe clamp? 1/2" Pony..with plenty of pipe.. Should come in handy? That 8" square?...well, it seems to be cleaning up quite well.. Along with these other two items.....took a while, and also managed to get the bit free from that Yankee chuck. The c clamps are 2" ones. That "chef's hat" screwdriver is a Goodell Pratt Co. item, for a tool kit for "motorcars". The square? Stanley No. 20, 8"...with steel hardware, instead of brass? Except for the brass wear strip. Cute little buggers, ain't they? Total for the weekend? ( not counting ice cream) $6.50 I'm not cheap, merely Frugal
  3. Too hot to do much....taking a break. Had to go for a CT Scan of the right ear....hit a few sales between there and home....spent $9, counting an item for the Boss... L-R: Defiance screwdriver bit, small block plane, 2 Irwin Perfection handled drivers, North Bros. Yankee No. 131A, Handy Andy chisel, Millers Falls No. 6 screwdriver, Craftsman 1/4 stubby, and a pair of vise grips....that was missing a part.. Kind of NEED a bolt? Also a c clamp. Found a bolt for the visegrips... Cleaned the little screwdriver up a bit. Block plane had a broken cap iron....we have a spare.. I think this will do..for one day's pickings?
  4. A Village wide yard sale day was a bust..for me..the Boss found a few items.... Second try later in the day....one site had a few "water pump pliers" at a dollar each. Since I can never find mine WHEN I need them..bought three...and gave a couple to my Daughter, since she is the one that swipes mine, anyway.. Hit a few more places....not much...where do they find all those clothes, anyway.... Found a spot...had a shed full of tools.....must be paying for the shed with the prices he was asking....found a $2 Chisel hiding amongst the $10 ones.. It IS an 1-1/2" wide chisel...stamped DEFIANCE by STANLEY Made in USA Another mushroom to clean up...and find a handle for....also in that shack/shed was a bucket of braces...8 or so..all overpriced.. Still carrying around that chisel, walked out back, to a "yard sale" area the fellow has....old tools and hardware, just sitting around on tables....exposed to any weather that comes along.. Found this trying to hide in a shady spot... Handsome, ain't he? Gave it a good drink oil 3in1 oil in all the moving joints ( like the Tin Man?) and got things cleaned up.. Sanded the wooden handles, wire wheeled the metal areas....added a coat of stain to the dried out wood.. Looked just like a slightly larger one I had...the larger one is a 10"... "New one" is a Stanley No. 945, 8" Has Stanley stamped all over the place.. Even on the chuck. As for that chisel..ground the mushroom down a bit.. Shined things up a bit, to where the logo will show up....DEFIANCE by STANLEY No. 1251 Made in USA May take a bit of work, to get it cleaned up.. Look close at the edge...see it "frown" there is also a slight bevel there... And this side has a double bevel ( chin?) and you can see the frown better.. need a bucket of water, and a day at the grinder, maybe...and find a leather-hooped handle for it... Not a great day, but, not too bad? The brace? Cost me a whopping $4
  5. Well, second weekend was a tad bit better. One sale today, in spite of the high winds.. There was a 1/2" pipe clamp laying under the shovels. Full tool boxes were $30..meh Had a few items leaning on the barn.. Already have one of those...I did pick up a box lot of .."stuff"....once I got it home... Lot of the screwdrivers were Torx. Anyone need a saw blade? Or, some sand paper? There was a plastic case in the mess, too.. Might need a little clean up? Closer look inside. Red handle is to a Plumb Ball Pean hammer. Estwing mason's chisel..not sure about the side handle for a drill, or that mitre gauge, big Visegrips pliers is soaking in WD40...some wrenches are Craftsman...some are junkers/loaners. Wind had cleaned a lot of the ashes out of the fire pit...found two items.. Grrrr, these two got roasted. Seymour Smith & Sons spokeshave ( also outside, soaking) and the remains of my Veritas MK1 honing Guide....$40 when new.. Box lot was $5. Sale is until this Saturday. IF they don't blow away...well it was a start.
  6. Day one is done.....took two trips to do that, and bring the stuff home. Along with all the normal Friday stuff... Planes? Paid for three of them.. These two and a Great Neck thing hat was shaped like a block plane. I switched the front knob over to the Stanley No.4c, from the Stanley Defiance No. 3. The #4c is a type 10. More about these two later... Saws? It is a Disston....for tree trimming. Ugly teeth award.. Meh...have a few branches that need to be trimmed back....and First of two $1 handsaws...this is the better of the two. It even has a nib... Both of these $1 saws are 26" long. As for number 2.. Warranted Superior on the medallion. Bought this just for the hardware....not the tape, though.. Not sure IF this is a bolt, or a rivet....goes all the way through. And next.. Between the pruning saw and these items, I spent $5.25 Found the hammer head in one box, the handle in another. iron was a quarter. Largest hex key is 5/16". Straight jaw is almost brand new... Then there was this box.. Wasn't a full box, but.. Left side of the box.. And the right side. There were tapered shank bits.. Handsome, ain't they? I'm still digging through the rest, but there were another type of bit.. The expansive bit is a Craftsman, and goes out to 1-1/4". haven't cleaned the others up yet. May go back and see IF a pair of almost brand new braces are still on a table, tomorrow. Day One is done, day Two is about to begin...
