Good day folks, I'd like to open up a topic of support for our Patriot Woodworker and very talented turner @Big B. Big B is a Navy Veteran with an absolutely beautiful family and a very wonderful talent in the turning craft. Brian has been recently diagnosed with Large Cell Lymphoma, and he is currently going through Chemo treatments and by the looks of Brian he is dealing with it all pretty good, and I am sure his incredible circle of family and friends are a great support to him. Brian may not make it here as often as he would like, but I have followed his work on Facebook and there he is also keeping us all up to date on his progress and treatments. Lately, he decided to get with the times and sport a new hair-do! He decided to shave his hair off and be fashionable Here is Brian with one of his best friends on his lap, an older image a year ago Brian is a fighter, and he appears to be doing fantastically through it all, with his best furred friends at his side, and his family and friends, he's going to beat this sucker into remission and come out looking better than before, any of you Navy vets out there know that a little boat rocking aint gonna keep ya down! OK, gang, here's the deal. Whether you are a regular reader, casually drop by, Patriot member or a guest, you should know that every Christmas we adopt a Wounded Warrior Family. Last year, we had the privilege and honor of helping the Hine family have a most memorable holiday. Now we hear that Mrs. Hine is having medical issues. Please see the following post for additional information. The point here is The Patriot site is going to donate a large portion of the summer raffle to once again help the Hine family. PLEASE consider donating to the raffle to help the family who have given so much to keep this country free. Here's the link to the summer raffle- Our Patriot Turners- @RustyFN has been making segmented turnings. He found an online calculator to help determine the angles needed to cut the segments. @Gerald turned some neat little vessels and then adorned them with pyrography and inks! Check out Gerald's post for more images- @forty_caliber posted his first turned vessel and it's a beaut! Please read his post and see all of the positive comments and encouragement from our members! The Moulthrop Family Turning Video (Pbs Craft In America)
John Morris posted a topic in Wood Turners
I have watched this episode many times and I still love it. About a minute in is when the spotlight on the Moulthrop family begins, and what a family! I am amazed at the turnings the patriarch of the family created, and the younger is an absolute genus with his turnings. My favorite is the sticks in the bucket with epoxy he does, then turns the blanks to create these incredible multiple species turnings. Take a look at the video, and have fun. Well, you know the old saying, "I like to make firewood in the woodshop" and for me that could not be closer to the truth! Here are my first few attempts at turning, before I read any instructions and watched any videos, I just chucked up some wood and went to town, and made firewood! I am doing a little better now, have not been on my lathe for about three weeks since I made my first successful bowls, but I'll get back on there soon enough!
