I have a couple of vintage power tools that are not well equipped to handle any dust collection (as was the case back then). the problem is they have a 1" internal diameter, the same as my shop vac hose. So one does not fit over the other. I was waiting to try to find some 1" o.d. rubber plumbing connector but I've not been to a big box since mid-March. Then I decided to try something else. I got a chunk of 2x4 and some Forstner bits and drilled holes to fit my machine and hose (sometimes one is different than the other so concentric holes of the right diameter. Shove on for a friction fit (one took a few dabs of hot glue.) Looks to be successful.

I have to buy a new vacuum for my workshop. I use it for general cleanup and attachment to my router table and for handheld plunge routing. My 12 year old Ridgid croaked last night.....my fault. Since I haven't bought one in all these years I don't know which manufacturers have excelled. I was considering Shop-Vac (made in USA) but Ridgid, Craftsman reviews seem to be good. I would like to max out at $100 - $150. Thank You for your suggestions.

The more you cut, the more chips and dust you generate. When a router is used, there is often a fan in the router that blows down while it is cutting. That breeze will blow chips away from the cut with enough force to keep them from being sucked up by a brush perimeter shop vac collector in place. I honestly haven't found a way to get "perfect" collection of the debris generated while the CNC is cutting. If I know I'll have to suck/sweep some up after a cut, then it is less damage to my ears to NOT use a shop vac and simply let the chips fly. The "other" thing most jobs produce is very fine dust that wafts through the air and will end up on everything in the shop. To keep this out of my lungs I mount a filtered air cleaner right above the CNC beds in our furniture design shop. When the wood being cut is making more dust than chips I also wear a dust mask. 4D
