Decided to make a Captain Eddie 12 Cent Pen for each of my cousins. Every August we have a reunion so I have plenty of time to get them done. I did manage to turn and apply finish to 20 of them so far. Did I say I have 46 cousins? I have a bunch of Brazilian flooring cut offs and I am using some for these. I also turn the brass nibs for them on my Unimat hobby lathe. The ink cartridge is from a standard Bic pen so here are a couple that are done and the misc parts. I also make stands/bases for them. I have them to do yet too.

That tool auction score I got a while back had over forty pen kits. It also had the mandrels and bushings. What it didn't have was the drill bit to square the ends. There were eight of the circuit board kits which come with the tube cast into the blank. I put the blanks on the wood lathe and turned them round as I could get them. Then I moved them to the hobby lathe and got them perfectly round. After that I chucked the blank in the hobby lathe without the mandrel and cross cut the ends to square them up. I then moved them back to the wood lathe on the mandrel and turned them and polished them. I also got a nice pen press in the deal so used it to assemble the pens. I did two of them which are the first pens I turned using a kit. I have done the Captan Eddie pens and but never any from a kit.

A number of my pens will be heading to South Africa next week so I needed to turn some replacements. 3 of these are turned from spectraply. I was hoping to see some of the color bleeding that Ron had but I think the camo color doesn't make this apparent. Hopefully in a month or two I'll be able to buy some brighter colors to try.

I got a call a few weeks back from the Mayor or our town. He wanted three maple pens and a two of my small cutting boards. So I delivered them to his office last Thursday morning along with three display boxes I got from Woodcraft to put the Maple pens in. I just didn't have time to make the boxes and these looked so good with the pens. He and the Governor or Alabama along with the Secretary of Commence are on a recruiting trip to South Korea and Japan to talk to several businesses about locating in our area. My items were taken to present as gifts to those dignitaries they will be meeting with. Wow. Quite the honor to have my items selected to go along on this trip and very humbling. Many of things could have been selected from the many artist in our area so I humbled and honored to have my items selected. Here is our Mayor with me presenting him the items.
