  1. Good Monday morning! Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks! Welcome new members To view our newest members and welcome them to our digs, please see our Members Page, you can "Sort" by join date and click on their names and be taken to their profile page where you can leave a message of welcome. Thank you for making our newest folks feel welcome. Return to the World I'd like to thank @Ron Dudelston and @lew for all their work behind the scenes while I was absent, and our Forum Hosts for keeping their forums lively and updated. And last but not least, I'd like to thank the gents who kept the Monday topic up and live, thank you!!! I had strict doctors orders to unplug from the world for a month and focus on my own health, that meant no work, no online activity, R&R, and time away from it all. In other words I danged near lost my mind and had to take a break! Thanks again to everyone, especially our members who keep coming back and make this forum what it is today. Featured Topic @kmealy and the team doing the work of angels, volunteers and philanthropists, great job guys! Featured Link Featured Gallery Image @calabrese55 showing of his new segmented bowl talents! Featured Video How to build a pre-industrial table, this trailer shows a little bit of what's in the entire class episode, I have the dvd that I purchased when they first came out by the fine folks at Mortise and Tenon Magazine, I watched the entire video over two hours long and I learned much just by watching, and I have not even built the table yet. I highly recommend this class if you want to learn to build just like a shop would in the pre-industrial era. To receive a military/first responders discount see this link and scroll to the bottom of the page. FAQ's For purchasing the class go here: Apprenticeship Series-Tables

Featured link Our featured links are website links added by staff and members, add your favorite links today at "Links Directory" Featured download Featured video This morning I thought we'd change things up a little bit, with a featured video instead of an image. Selfishly (my new interest) I have installed this video about a young man who builds Flintlock rifles from scratch, from the forging of the barrel, to the carving of the stock. Wallace Gusler was a well known gunsmith for period rifles, he has passed away but he left behind a legacy that is honored and sought after to this day. This film made in 1968, was shown in many high school wood shops and metal shops back in the day, an educational video. As woodworkers we have much in common with the gunsmith, and in this video you won't be disappointed. I sat down yesterday and finally watched the video from beginning to end, and loved it, it's almost an hour long, I know many just don't have the time to sit and watch a suggested one hour video, but if you find yourself in an "interested" mood, and you have an hour to spare, you'll love the craftsmanship that this young man at the time possesses, it's amazing what he knows, his talent is hard to find today, only a handful of gun builders can do what he did. Enjoy!

Some trees have been found 120 feet high and four feet in diameter. The tree grows rather slowly. The bark is very thin, light-reddish-brown, and from one-eighth to one-quarter inch thick. It is shreddy and peels off in narrow shaggy strips. Because of its reddish bark and wood the Canadian French called the Eastern Redcedar “baton rouge,” meaning red stick, (read more...) My shop In my shop, not much in the way of projects but I am having fun collecting tools I'll need to round out my inventory of chair making implements and tools. One of the last tools I purchased from a seller on eBay is this wonderful frame saw with a couple blades. I was in search for a turning saw, they are a tad shorter than this saw, but this saw should do well for cutting radius's, it appears this specific frame saw was made as a turning saw considering the blade installed and the blades that come with it and the tiny set screw and post to hold the blade. It should be on my bench tonight when I come home from work, I can't wait! By the way, I stole this beaut for 75 bucks, I am very happy. So that's it in my shop, hope you all have a wonderful week ahead, and stay safe, and be well! Turning saw by S. Image of the week It's not often (actually never have) featured one of my own images here in this section, but I thought I'd share a neat picture I took with just my cell phone. I recently purchased a Stanley No. 49 Auger Depth Stop, and I took a couple pictures of it in action, and one of them I thought was just really neat, very clear, with the background items blurred out a little to bring focus to the foreground. I was impressed with my Motorola cell phone camera, I have had this cell phone for about 4 years and I am just now learning about all the imaging capabilities it has. Thanks for viewing!
