  1. Friday again folks. Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we're taking a weekend break. It's supposed to hit 66° tomorrow and I might try wading through the yard to see just how much of a mess Winter left behind. Then again I might just do nothing. What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
  2. Friday again folks. Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" I'll be going out shortly to shovel 4-5" of some of that nasty white stuff. The "Battle of the Boiler" will continue Sunday evening with the replacement of the last three steam trap valves. After that will come a bit of reworking of the main thermostat wiring so the air-handler will work when we get around to adding AC to the building. Already have the pneumatic thermostats that control the dampers in the air-handler replaced with dual-action thermostats that will work for both heating and cooling. Still need to replace the main (only) electronic thermostat with a dual-action which will also require adding a fan control relay to the circuit. The air-handler will only be doing recirculating work because the return air intake is on the second floor of the original part of the building. The lower floor doesn't require as much cooling as the other floors so we're going to try using the recirculated air to cool it. Might be able to get away with 20 tons of cooling versus 25 tons. Neighbor is currently looking at 5- ton package units that have the air-handlers built in. Simplest approach for this building that only requires connecting ducting power and electronic thermostats to the units. 5 ton is the cut-off for single-phase units anything larger requires three-phase power. So What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
  3. Friday again folks. Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we're playing the waiting for parts game with "The Battle of The Boiler" We've got parts coming from coast to coast and from border to border. You know you've called the wrong place when they respond " You want a what for what?" And then when you give them a part number they ask "How old is this system?" And then when you tell them about 65 years old they respond "Oh that old you've got to be kidding." Hopefully only one more part to find. What's on your weekend agenda?
  4. Friday again Where the heck did the week go? Must have lost a day or so roaming those steam tunnels located "Two Weeks From Anywhere". The project continues with searching for the last few parts needed to totally resuscitate the roughly 65 year old boiler system. So as I spend some time searching this marvelous world wide web and making a few (lots of) phone calls... What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
  5. Friday again folks. Not that it makes much of a difference here "Two Weeks From Anywhere". The "Battle of the Boiler" continues with one of the old class room ventilators deciding to run like a freight train last evening. Wish they had put shut off valves in when they installed the system so we could isolate each ventilator/radiator without shutting down the boiler. We'll be fixing that oversite as the work continues. Nothing like hand threading pipes using my old REED pipe vise and dies. "School" methods on an " School" building. So this morning I'll be going over to replace the thermostatic steam trap valve and check the operation of the pneumatic actuated control valve after I get the Acetylene torch tank refilled. Will also be starting to replace three of the five float and thermostatic steam traps in the system starting Sunday after the store closes. They're Durham Bush originals from the 1956/1957 addition and remodel of the building, and cheaper to replace than rebuild if you can even find the discontinued rebuild kits. (Found one but got four N.O.S other brand F&T Traps for less than what they wanted for the one rebuild kit.) May run into the "Ground Hog" because three of those are located in the "Time Tunnels" under the east and west sides of the 1956/1957 addition to the building. Should I lock him up with yhpruM? He's still crying about our last encounter when he met me and my 24" pipe wrench down in the west tunnel. (P.B.A.M.F ) That's my weekend agenda, what's on yours?
  6. ... It is Friday right? Here in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" the "Battle Of The Boiler" continues. Last evening was a late one as we finished up at about 1:00AM this morning. Ended up rebuilding the complete feed water manifold piping due to the 3/4" lines becoming plugged. Also started assembling the water filtering and conditioning system that will hopefully put an end to the scale build up in the system. Still waiting on N.O.S. Float & Thermostatic Steam Traps to arrive that we found for about 1/4 the price of going through a distributor. Also waiting on a few other parts we found at similar savings. When they get here the real "Fun" begins. So,... What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
  7. Just another "Manic Friday" here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" folks. Believe it or not the new condensate return pump decided to start making a squealing bearing sound last night. Not a bad job to change, but the roughly hour trip each way to go get it is double how long it takes to change. Also still crawling through the steam tunnels trying to figure out which steam valve or trap is still randomly sticking. yhpruM says it wasn't him, and that he's still recovering from our little encounter in the west steam tunnel. Not sure if I should believe him but when he saw the 24" pipe wrench in my hand he almost fainted. So I know what I'll be doing. What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
  8. Half of January gone already. Time sure flies when you're not having fun. Here in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" it's been one of those weeks. We managed to get the what turned out to be about 40' of condensate return lines replaced after jack-hammering our way through basically six concrete/ concrete block walls only to have that little creep yhpruM show up during the test phase of the return lines. The little creep figured he'd throw us another curve by dropping the bottom out of the condensate tank. ...... I'm a gonna get you yhpruM, I'm a gonna get you. So while spending most of yesterday playing phone tag to find a replacement condenensate tank, which we found where one is located at a "Wholesale Distributor" (Can't pay them direct have to go through a "Retail Distributor") and finally getting the "Retail Distributor" to understand that the "Wholesale Distributor" will allow us to go pick it up once the "Retail Distributor" accepts payment. (It's about 50 miles from us.) The "Retail Distributor" is normally "Ship to customer only No Pick-Ups". The neighbor will be picking up the replacement this morning. Since the building was going on it's third day without heat, it was getting a bit cool in there. We had successfully used Band-Aids on the pipes we replaced for a few days before we replaced them we decided to see if we couldn't get something to work good enough to get some heat into the building. Sand tubes, nope not gonna work. Bicycle Inner Tube...fold up stuff under hole and inflate It Works! So I'm going over to baby sit the boiler while the neighbor makes the parts run. What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
  9. Friday again folks! Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we're going through our January "Heat Wave". It's actually warmed up a couple of degrees to -1° with a wind chill of -15° from -3° WC -19°. (Took me 1/2 hr to figure out how to sign in ) We'll be picking up the needed piping supplies to replace the condensate return line crossover pipe next door sometime today. We'll be doing the job starting Monday while they are closed. Until then it's add a Band-Aid, and cross your fingers. So, What's on Your Weekend Agenda? Mine involves trying to keep the "Oooo, Fire Good!" going.
  10. Friday again folks, and after the past couple of heavy wind days I'll be going out to see if we're still located "Two Weeks From Anywhere" when it gets light enough outside to see. Heard plenty of crash bangs while those winds were blowing. We'll probably have to start over with getting the yard cleaned up again. @HandyDan You're leaves found a new home, I'll grind them up come Spring. May find some of Kansas while I'm out checking things out. So, What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
  11. Spooky Halloween Everyone. Been raining most of the week here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" so not a lot of outside time to get those outside things done. Kind of hard to believe we're still 9.53" below average for rainfall, but that's what the weather people are telling us. So, What's on Your Weekend Agenda? Anything Scary?
  12. Friday again. Where the heck did the week go? Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we spent a couple of days calling the power company complaining about flickering lights, and the power cutting out. Tech finally showed up yesterday and after I expained what was happenning and at first he tried blaming it on our house wiring, then decided it sounded like a floating neutral lead. He put new crimp connectors at both the pole and house. So far not a single flicker or cut out. Cost me my lab grade surge suppresor. It let out it's "Magic Smoke". Still trying to get yard ready for winter, working around the weather. Where was this rain when we needed it? One weather man said to have the shovels/snow blowers ready for sometime next week. They're still grinding the road out front, don't think they're going to beat the weather which will make for some fun getting in/out of our driveway. So, What's on your weekend agenda?
  13. Friday? What's going on here? Something must have happened going through that time warp to "Three Weeks From Anywhere" Seems like the last thing I knew it was Monday. While I'm trying to figure this out, What's on your weekend agenda?
  14. It's Friday, Are you ready for the weekend? Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we're enjoying some cooler/dryer nice for working outside weather. I'm so far behind with everything I think I passed myself somewhere. So, What's on your weekend agenda?
  15. Friday again folks, we made it to another weekend! Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we've been enjoying a bit of cooler less humid weather. After the Triple H weather of the past couple of weeks I took it easy Monday. Tuesday was another story. I went to one of the auto boneyards that allows you to remove your own parts. I've been looking for about a year for a steering box for my 2000 Dodge PU. It's a standard cab short bed and takes a steering box that was only used for three model years, and are known for developing a leak where the pitman arm shaft exits out the bottom of the box. Mine was leaking so bad you could watch a steady stream of PS fluid run out. Glad I went and looked, the only truck they had that had the right steering box had a non leaker. I was only there for about 5 minutes when the guy that moves the vehicles around was coming to get it for the crusher. The parts stores wanted around $1100.00 for a rebuilt, new is over $1200.00 Boneyard price $75.00 if they removed it $45.00 if you remove it yourself. Of course I removed it myself. Have the blisters too prove it. And while I was there, spotted a 2008 Honda Pilot that had near perfect seats, door panels, and carpet. So, that led to a return trip on Wednesday, and a rather full Pilot on the return home. Wasn't there more than 20 minutes before a twenty something came up and asked "What are you getting from this Pilot"? I replied "The seats". He replied "I knew I should have came back sooner". Need to go back today, should have gotten the wiring harness for the drivers power seat. Well at least everything that would have to be removed to get at it is out of the way. Mowed the 2 1/2 acre yard at the Antique Mall next door yesterday. Possible today. After I'm done today, I may take the rest of the weekend off. I'm getting a bit for this $hit. So, What's on your weekend agenda?
  16. Friday again, Wonder how that happened? Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" about the only thing going on is trying to survive the Triple H weather. I'm beginning to think we took a trip to the Tropics without going anywhere. Might get some more severe again today, haven't cleaned up from the last one yet. Might leave that job for yhpruM, that might keep him out of my hair for awhile. So, What's on your weekend agenda?
  17. Looks like it's Friday again , it is Friday right? So in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" I'm playing the waiting on U.S.P.S. game of getting the small parts needed to get the Pilot back on the road. Probably won't get the parts until Monday. They're coming from out @Gene Howe's way. Got the Aisin Timing Belt/Water Pump kit yesterday. It came from the right side of us from New York. Doesn't really matter it's supposed to rain through most of the weekend, and we really need it being over 10" below average for the season. Even the rains taking "Two Weeks" to get here. What's up with that? So with all of that said, What's on your weekend agenda?
  18. Friday July 30th 2021? What the heck happened? Another month already gone. Going to be a more comfortable day here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" with high temps forecast to be in the low to mid 70's with lower humidity, & dewpoint temps. About time. Since it's going to be so nice I'll be making a boneyard run to see if I can get a few parts that got damaged when the timing belt broke on the Pilot. I need to get another timing belt cover, motor mount bracket, crankshaft belt guide, and belt guide/stop. Seems like I'm forgetting something. Can't believe what the dealer wants for those parts. So, What's on your weekend agenda?
  19. Friday again folks. Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we've been trying to work around the weather. I need to pull the front bumper cover off of the Pilot so's I can add driving/fog lights. From the instructions it looks like a fun job. Just hope yhpruM doesn't show up. So,... What's on your weekend agenda?
  20. Friday? What happened to the rest of the week? Must have gone through some sort of time warp on that trip to "Three Weeks From Anywhere". That missed turn at one of those goofy round-abouts must have been the portal back to "Two Weeks From Anywhere". Oh well, it was a good trip anyway. The Pilot ran great, and averaged a little better than 22.25 MPG for combined city/highway driving. Today I'll be doing the 3rd transmission drain/refill, and installing the Tow-Package transmission and power steering coolers along with a pair of Filtran magnetic filters. Of course doing so requires removing most of the front coverings, but I've now done it enough times that I've got it down to about 1/2 hour. ... So, what's on your weekend agenda? Anything fun?
  21. Friday again folks! Going to be a wet weekend here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" but we need it. Helped a friend install meter box, and main breaker panel at his place "Three Weeks From Anywhere" earlier this week. Now waiting on inspection before we can continue. Not worried about passing the inspection, we don't know the meaning of the word "Overkill". Yesterday helped the nephew clear out the storage cell the BIL had, the Pilot towed my skid steer trailer with no problem. Now to get ready for a trip to the SIL's place around the 7th, or 8th of July. Will be hauling up some furniture that was the MIL's. ... So,... What's on your weekend agenda?
  22. Friday again folks! Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we finally got some much needed We got about 1" with the that moved through this morning which leaves us about 9.5" below the normal average. ... Of course that means here comes the "Muggies". So ... What's on your weekend agenda?
  23. Hey, what happened to May? Here in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we're headed for our first 90° day. It's been a rather strange ride weather wise, we're either 20° below or above our average normal temperatures. So before the heat sets in I'll be making a "Bone Yard" run for a few small parts to replace what mice half ate. At least they left the wiring harness's alone, but I can't imagine that foam rubber tasting good. So, What's on your weekend agenda?
  24. Friday again folks. Don't know what I'll get done today here "Two Weeks From Anywhere". We're starting out at 43° with and a WC of 34°, forecast high of 47° A couple of days ago we were in the high 70's, low 80's. So, what's on your weekend agenda?
  25. Well we're finally getting some heat here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" Been doing the bone yard run for parts for the Pilot. Had to come home for a different Phillips screwdriver. Four screws in the handles that hold on the headliner didn't want to play nice. So, I'm headed back to pick the bones of a 2004, to replace damaged interior parts on our 2006. ... So ...What's on your weekend agenda?
