  4. The Watervliet Shaker Historic District, in Colonie, New York, was the first Shaker settlement in America. It’s also where Mother Ann Lee lived her final days. Lee and seven followers left England and arrived in New York City in 1774 to establish a purer form of Shakerism. They established Watervliet in Albany County, New York, in 1776. While Watervliet was the first Shaker settlement, the first "formal" organization was established at Mount Lebanon.

  6. Dear Patriot Woodworker's Just as a friendly reminder, please view our forum guidelines at: https://thepatriotwoodworker.com/guidelines/ Our Guidelines are always accessible by hovering your cursor over the "About Us" navigation at the top of our website and clicking on "Guidelines". And, for your quick reading pleasure, I've picked a few guidelines that are really the most important to remember, as can be seen below, thank you! Respect is the name of the game. You must respect your fellow members. Please refrain from inflammatory and defamatory comments as well as flaming, taunting, and general disrespect. Do not simply put down the opinion or advice given by others. If you don't agree with it, say why - respectfully. Don't just tell them they're wrong. Do not make uninvited remarks about typos, duplicate posts, posting styles, etc. When an opinion-based discussion is being had, do not state things like "there is no argument" as if your opinion is the only one or the only one that matters. When someone has clearly stated their opinion, do not say things like "Are you serious?" and "Are you kidding me?" Remember, this is not a debate club. This is a friendly discussion community. Allow people to have their opinion. No one is to act as some sort of opinion judge, responding to each one to say whether they agree with it or not or whether or not it is a valid, well thought out opinion. We do not allow threads to be started to discuss who or what is the most overrated, who or what is your least favorite, etc. Moderators and myself have the final say on anything. If you have a problem, you may make a complaint to them directly and not publicly on the website. Creating threads or posts that question or reference administrative decisions or potential administrative decisions, such as post removals and thread closures, is not permitted. We are not perfect and if you feel that we have made a mistake, please privately contact a staff member and we will review the situation. If you would like a copy of your removed post so that you can adjust it and re-post, please contact us. As long as we wouldn't prefer you to simply start over, we'll be glad to send you a copy.
  7. Woodworking Web is a relatively new forum community run by one of the most experienced woodworking community administrators, Martin Sojka. There are some wonderful projects on display at Woodworking Web.
  8. I'm new here and just found out about the Patriot Woodworker from a general Google search for woodworker forums. I've been around these forums for almost ten years and this was the first I heard about the PW. So I am curious about the PW story. I think I have read all the boiler plate entries on the PW forum, but still have some questions. When was the PW begun? Who were its founders? Where is its home? How many members are there now? What else can you say about PW other than it's a place for Vets and Friends to hang out and share their passions and their experiences? I think the PW is valuable effort to support all our vets and disabled service members. By learning more, I hope I can do more. Sincerely, Al Heitz (aj43)
  9. Just a good danged community of woodworkers, thank you all for being here. Whenever I come here, my spirit is renewed, I rejoice, I thank God for the trees He provides for the lumber I use, and I thank you all for broadening my view and exposure to the art, trades, and craft that is woodworking. Everyone here is greatly appreciated, I am personally humbled you all see this lil corner of the world known as The Patriot Woodworker, worthy of your time. And each time I leave our community here, I'm ready for the world, and I feel like DANCING! JUST LIKE THIS!
  10. The video quality is not the best but, the concept presented sure is.
  11. I saw Chad Stanton do a video on LFL and got my interest up. I live on a country road with not a lot of traffic but am considering making one for the church parking lot (on a more traveled country road as it's 1/2 mile from an interstate exit). I'd probably make it a miniature version of the church building (the front part). I have some stained glass that I could use for the Gothic windows. Comments, ideas?
  12. Since there seem to be some issues with the new custom theme folks are trying out, some folks are also reporting issues or needs and wants regarding "The Patriot Woodworker - Light" theme within the custom theme topic as well, making it a tad confusing to keep the two reports separate. Please report issues, needs, wants, and wishes for the "The Patriot Woodworker - Light" theme in this topic so we cant track the two themes in different topics, thanks!
  13. Woodcraft has a delightful free tutorial to build a Little Library, not only is the plan wonderful, but the concept is awesome. I love small grass roots community driven ideas. This one is really cool. Click on Little Free Library
