Sorry this is so late this week but they're dropping like flies around here. If this keeps up, I'm gonna need a second funeral suit. OK folks, it's that time of year where we get to share our good fortune and make one very special family's Christmas the BEST ever. Our Operation Ward 57 project is off and running. Please see the information- Even though this runs until December 31, please try and get your donation in early so that shopping for the kids' Christmas can be done on time! Our Patriot Turners- We've had a lot of additional comments on @Steve Krumanaker's post of his birdhouse ornaments. @Larry Buskirk even located one of Steve's videos on his techniques. Please check it out! @Ron Altier is also in full swing with his Christmas ornaments. As always his designs and colors are spectacular Lots of nice comments on these in Ron's post- Ron took a break from ornaments to turn a sweet little wooden spoon. Our members really got into this topic and shared their examples as well as several videos demonstrating various methods for making spoons- @AndrewB started another Myrtle wood bowl. This blank didn't have the unworkable defect. Check out Andrew's post on the bowl as well as a critique of a new angle drill/sander he recently obtained. Andrew also started a conversation in Machinery Review Forum on a new lathe. We are reposting it here to see if any of our turners might have missed it and can give Andrew some of their input. What’s Coming Up- Cinda Drozda will be having an online live demonstration of "Elevating a Burl Vessel". Click on the above image for the link to Cindy's page. Scroll to the bottom of the page for the link for registration. The AAW presents John Jordan in a live online event- Click on the above image for more information. For The Newbies- Last week we posted Part 1 of Sam Angelo's tool use video. Sam has Part 2 ready- Turning is fun. Sanding, not so much. I suck at sanding. Lyle Jamieson takes some of the mystery out of getting a fine finish. Informative video on the various ways to mount bowl Expand Your Horizons- If you are looking for a little fun with your Christmas ornaments, why not enter one in the CHristmas Ornament Challenge! This is kind of a neat way to embellish a turning. I've seen pictures of it but didn't know the correct term for the process. The video is a little long but packed with ideas- New Turning Items- Well, it would be new to you, if you build one. Another way to make a Burr Tool. This one with actual bearings. I think I'd add a ball magnet to hold the hold the burr bit from falling out. Everything Else- A fun project from Carl Jacobson- Last week's videos from Rick Turns- Safe turning and stay well
