Community news Our Veterans Forum and Free For All Forum are soon to have an official host! I have wanted a host for our Veterans Forum for some time now, and we were waiting for someone to step up and into the fire. Our Veterans Forum deserves attention, and a host, after all the premise of our existence as a forum is our veterans. Soon we will have our host up and running, he will assume the duties of posting veteran relevant topics such as congressional and presidential bills and laws that effect our veterans, and topics related to anniversaries of wars, battles, and much more. This is a works in progress, how our new host will approach this task is unfolding at the time of this announcement. I am excited. Also, our new host has also volunteered to host the Free For All. So, standby folks for the unveiling of our host. Who can it be? Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks! Our family was very busy this past weekend, had to take our 9 year old doggy to the Emergency Vet, turns out she is very anemic, which typically doesn't turn out too well for dogs, she is on steroids to suppress her immune system in order to let the red blood cells come up, she seems improved, but I feel we are only delaying the inevitable. We will take her in to our family vet and see what he has to say. It's always hard. Little sleep the last few nights, we kind of take turns watching her or being alert as we sleep, if she does take a turn for the worse, we don't want her to deal with her remaining time on earth alone while we are sleeping. If she starts to demonstrate other symptoms of failure, we'll have to take her in and put her down. Life, don't we love it! Even though her industry is primarily dominated by men, this hasn’t stopped her from making a name for herself in the design world. We discovered her work while perusing the Architectural Digest Show last year and were immediately transfixed by her sculptural wood pieces and detailed woven patterns that are transposed onto chairs, stools and benches. We were excited to include the company’s totems in our cover shoot with Julia Stiles. We stepped into the Peg Woodworking world to find Kate and her two assistants, Sally and Catherine, hard at work polishing, sanding and creating at their studio in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. We also explored their design studio in Fort Greene. We were fascinated by the process and how you will be too. Read more....
  6. Good Monday Morning! Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks! Yesterday I took a couple hours and finished up a chest for our daughters room, the chest will sit in a window alcove and they'll put "things" in it, just more much needed storage for the girls. I used some really cool old hinges to secure the lid with. I purchased them off Ebay years ago, they are colonial reproduction hinges made in the 40's. There is no joinery on the chest to speak of, my girl wanted this chest this weekend, so I resorted to simple glued up but joints, with countersunk screws, and wood dowel plugs to hide the screws. Dovetails would have been nice, but that would have added another weekend onto the project. Flattened the panels of the chest, this is the lid of the chest. Installing the hinges. (That's me, for you new guys ) And one happy daughter. 8. Tomorrow is D Day. 76 years ago, a whole bunch of people just like us joined together to stop a demonic evil political system. Most of those people have since died and the few remaining are dying every day. There were horrific losses on both sides, and as always, the civilian population suffered immensely. I don't think it is an impossible dream and hope to want wars of any kind to end. Defense against real threats is necessary but anything else is insanity. hat

Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks! Today is a day of reflection for our family, and also a chance to unite and be in each others presence. We are going to do the traditional barbecue but only with the four of us, mama and me, our son and our oldest daughter, our youngest girl is in the Army and away, so we are missing her always and our elderly relatives are staying put in their homes. This will be the first Memorial Day that our baby girl is not with us, and these firsts will continue as along as she is in the Army and away from us. From what our soldier tells us, the command is creating a nice day of barbecue and camaraderie for the troops and their families on base with flags flying half mast. Yesterday myself, mama and our two remaining kids, hiked the woods and enjoyed some peaceful scenery. We walked and walked, until we came upon a thin narrow trail with a sign at the entrance, that stated "Mountain Lion sighted May 21, proceed with caution". We decided to not proceed, in our experience and exposure to this area, our lions can be very aggressive and groups of people don't seem to phase them much anymore, so we just turned around and headed back. But not before me and mama got a picture! The Morris family wishes you all the best today, please be safe, stay sane, and if you are away from home and may have indulged in the fun a little too much, please call a taxi, or ask a sober friend to drive home. Have a good, meaningful Memorial day! Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks! This past weekend was a bunch of errands for me, doc appointments all day Friday, then running around town Saturday with my daughter to pick up painting supplies for her room, and we helped grandma with moving a tv up to her front room, and Sunday I took a breather and got lazy, watched The Patriot with my son, and I viewed YouTube videos on Longrifle building. I did walk out to my shop and I went through the contents of a Kennedy machinists chest and it was filled with mainly watchmaker supplies. I have three of these chests that I inherited a couple years ago. The chest are really nice, high quality. The contents are interesting and I may be able to use quite a few of the relics in my upcoming gunsmithing agenda. 16. Friday May 1st 2020, Good Morning Everyone! We made it through April! For a change it's not raining here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" in S.E Wisconsin, and the SUN IS SHINING! For those of you still doing those "Essential Jobs" we again Thank, and Salute You. Some states are lifting their "Stay At Home" restrictions, and allowing some business's to reopen. So for those of you returning to work we hope you stay well. As for us we intend to continue practicing safe social distancing, and continue following "The Cool School Mule's" advice. "Be Cool, Don't Be A Fool, Wear Your Face Mask" Once the lakes in our yard subside I'll be trying to get some yard work done. So what's on your weekend agenda?

  18. Well here it is Good Friday, and we've made it through another week of "Social Distancing". Here in Wisconsin the Governor has ordered the State Parks closed due to vandalism beginning today. People have been trashing the parks, stealing the Toilet Paper, and Hand Sanitizers from the public bathrooms. We also had to go out and vote on Tuesday due to the state legislature refusing to allow the voting date to be moved. We won't know the results of voting until Monday the 13th so the absentee ballots that were postmarked before midnight the 7th can get counted. Many people that requested absentee ballots didn't receive them in time to use them. We had a very nice day on Tuesday, and the poll workers really stepped up to insure those in the lines by 8:00 PM got to exercise their right to vote. My hat is off to them. Now we're back to colder than average weather with snow in the forecast Sunday night into Monday. My hat is also off to those of you that are still doing those essential jobs that help keep the rest of us going. It can't be easy dealing with some of the inconsiderate people out there. Thank You, and hopefully you will stay well. So how was your week, and what have you got planned for this Easter weekend?

  20. Good Monday Morning! Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What do you accomplish over the weekend? I'm filling in for the boss this morning. In this wacky , unpredictable world we all need a sanctuary like a shop to distract us, at least for a while. What have you built? I am a little curious about one thing. We are being advised to stay home and isolate ourselves from the public especially if you're over 60. Are you isolating? If so, how are you keeping busy? Please share your secrets. Welcome to your new community! Isolation Pictures Last week, my daughter called and asked if I'd conduct "shop" class for my three granddaughters. I really think mom needed a break. The girls are 19 (college freshman), 17 (high school junior) and 13 (8th grade) wanted to build either a bird house or a bird feeder. Here is a picture of the school session. Notice that there are no air tools, all fingers are in tact and I could keep safety glasses on at least two of them. Valerie got a letter grade cut. Post your isolation picture below folks!

If a verified and referenced answer is not arrived at by the end of each month's "What's It" project, a random draw will be performed for a "One Year MWTCA Club Membership". Only Patriot Woodworker's who participate in this "What's It" topic will be included in the random draw. Additional What's It Rules Unless you are completely sure what this item is, please avoid "definitive statements" that appear that you are without a doubt claiming that you know what the item is. For example stating, "this item is called a "widget xx" used for "insert purpose here". If you are making a definitive statement you must accompany your statement with evidence or proof from a secondary source. An example of acceptable statements within the realm of having fun and educated guesses would be something like this, "I believe it could be", or "It appears it's made for this or that", etc etc etc...
