Gunny got a reaction from FlGatorwood in Part 1- The jigs
Ah so more jigs to make, and store.
I really need to work 2 days a week for 5 days pay so I have 5 days to be in the shop. Which is where I wanted to be in the first place.

Gunny reacted to lew in Part 9- Finishing Up
Thanks, Pat. It is quite consistent as for thickness. I had to learn to have a nice steady force to avoid ripples. I have a couple of thin pushers!

This is one very well thought out project. Looks like it works too.
How consistent are your results from one piece of lumber to the next?
You better get yourself a really nice thin push stick to get those final inches thru.

CFL requires color correction and there are color corrected CFL but they are expensive. So use the settings on your camera to correct the color if using CFL. Even this correction will give less than desirable results.

Gunny reacted to Pat Meeuwissen in What my current setup is
I need something like this but that allows for movement of the saw. I have a dust deputy /shop vac and a 1 1/2 hp dust collector(4") set up just for my miter saw with very poor results. It gets the super fine stuff but not enough of the larger in my opinion.

And of course if you want complicated this guy gets it done. For me more effort than I was willing to put into it, BUT I did learn a great deal about HOW a dust collector works. This is only one video of several he offers on this subject.

Quite some system you have there.
For reference material here is a interesting link on some testing a guy did for his miter saw DC. A good solid video without needing advanced calculus to figure out his math. Key point he makes is something we all should keep in mind. No one way works for everyone. If you watch till the end he makes it clear his adapter cannot be used when cutting miters. To which he relies on normal DC which is poor. Because nothing is perfect and no matter what you will have some dust or chips.

Gunny got a reaction from John Morris in Part#2 Layout
Always have been curious as to how this is done and set up. Looks much like I set up for a pen blank just on a larger scale.
Keep posting, looking forward to learning some more.

Gunny got a reaction from Artie in Part#3 Making the cuts
Well this resolves how this is done. I made a jig for pens that is a metal channel, wood glue doesn't stick to it. Just jam all the pieces in it with glue and adjust clamp. Never thought about leaving some wood to keep the assembly as one piece.
Pictures are sometimes better to explain than my attempt with words.

Very true, for me it comes down to working with what I have verses what I cannot afford.

Jack, you may have to measure it to see the difference, but it exists. I could actually see the amperage draw on mine drop as I sealed the joints. Another reason is to eliminate the annoying "whistle" that sometimes happen when a joint leaks. All this depends, to some degree on the system. Larger ducting, longer runs, and huge airflow, benefit more from the sealing.
