Gene I started by drawing the round scallop things all over it from the top hole down to the foot. Then i burned all of that. Then I took a micromotor tool with a diamond burr and scooped out the wood from each scallop. Then I burned the lines then colored it.

    Turnings

My name is Brian Longshore or (BigB) and I am 42 years old and a Verteran (US Navy, Electronics Technician USS CHOSIN CG-65 Pearl Harbor Hawaii 97-03). I found and started this passion that is woodturning by accident four years ago while looking thru youtube videos. Ever since then my families lives have been changed in such a positive way by the wonderful experiences and the very many good and talented people in this hobby. My son enjoys turning pens and my daughter turns the occasional small bowl but she mainly loves to wood burn (Pyrography). In a world where so many of the younger generation no longer use their hands or even have access to a wood working hobby I consider myself very fortunate that my kids are interested in creating things by hand. I also absolutely love to teach woodturning to anyone young or old who is interested in trying something new. Occasionally, when we have friends or family over I will put them on the lathe and open their eyes to the world of woodturning and they usually all love it and want to return for more. This is a small album of some of my recent turnings. I hope you like them.

Thought this one looked like something out of a star trek episode so named it the alien due to its organic shape specifically related to the finial. The hollow form is Cedar with turquoise inlay in the cracked and small voids. The headpiece or Finial is made of Bradford Pear and has turquoise inlay as well in a concentric pattern on each side which was all turned and hand carved. Size including the finial is around 14.5"x9.5". Hope you enjoy as much as I did making it.
