I contacted the company, and I was told that there are no restrictions on installation. The lowest profile mounting bracket is about is about 1.5”, and that I can get as close to the rafters as I'd like.

For a few years I was using a 300 watt Halogen light in the garage / shop. Yesterday I replaced it with a 2 ft LED fixture. It's quite a bit brighter, and should use up less electricity. I'm thinking about moving the light up a little higher just to get it just a little more out of view because it is so blindingly bright, but first I want to see how hot the fixture gets after it has been on for a while, so I can determine how close I can get it to the rafters.

What a coincidence, I just bought a used desk lamp that I'm guessing could be made of stainless steel for a very reasonable price that has the same style of lamp shade, but mounted differently. It uses up to a 40W max. bulb. I plan to use it with a piece of machinery, not sure which machine yet.

A few of you mention that your retired, well not all of us are retired. I'm not retired, I've been pretty much a blue collar skilled worker all my life, and I have some very strong feelings about where things have been and are headed, and it's not good. You cannot expect people to be interested in work where there is very little to no compensation in it, especially when they have to invest so much in to time, tools, machinery, and shop space just to get started. People are getting to be terribly greedy and rude to the point of being personally insulting. I use to have a lot of pride and a really strong and passion for woodworking for close to 30 years, and dust collection for about the last 10 years. In the last couple years I've been losing interest to the point that last year I didn't do much at all.

John and Cal, unlike most here, I'm not retired and I doubt that I'll ever be able too. For a while now I've been looking for work, I tried my own thing with dust collection improvements and that has turned out to be a huge disappointment. Right now I don't need to be around  a lot of people that do not value my experience, time, and ideas. Not saying that some of you wouldn't, but just a simple thank you does not pay the bills, and because of that I don't share as much with people as I use too.

Naw John, your a little different. You have advertisers, and you ask for donations, plus you have people working in this forum for free. Your more inclined to promote anything woodworking related, I'm not. I gave that up about a year or so ago and could careless about promoting woodworking and tool and machine retailers, etc. It's not worth it, and not my job. My experience with it all became a total waste of time. Nowdays everyone just wants to take advantage of you if you let them, those days are over for me. It's not like the days all that long ago where if you had a good idea you had a chance to be recognized and compensated for it from a magazine. Two of my ideas were recognized and I received a small amount of compensation for them, but who cares right ? If you think that I'm the only one that has lost a lot of the passion for woodworking, your just fooling yourself.

I've got what I think is a major gripe about furnace filter sizes. For example my wife went down and bought 16" x 25" x 4" the same size thats printed of the old filter. She gets it home and it wouldn't because the actual size from one to the other filter is different by as much as 1/4' in just one or more the the demensions. I say, what a bunch of BS ! How about some standardized sizes folks ? It might not only save us from another trip to the store, but lesson the chances of price gouging.

In almost all cases it is NOT mass produced. Custom one of a kind pieces are not cheap too make. Plain and simple.

Yeah, I'm looking air a paper towel holder / shelf made of sheet metal that Rockler sells for $20 plus shipping. I'm deciding weather it's worth it for me to make, instead of just buying it.
