  1. Well that's my 22 cents worth anyways...my 2 cents + your pair-of-dimes.
  2. John, I think Buck was referring to his "old" push stick...least that's how I understood it.
  3. IDK...it's an "Enigma" to me. Flux capacitor control ring? Not sure if you changed camera's from the last video or not, but the brightness level of the laser seemed much more intense; of course I cleaned my glasses today too so... Sorry Steve, I 'ain't buying it You're selling yourself way, way short...just to envision what you've created takes far more than a clue. I'm amazed every time I see one of your videos using this.
  4. So that's where our Spring is hold up at?
  5. Prayers already in the works Patch...wishing you the very best.
  6. Not much on the agenda...can't seem to shake the cough portion of this cold...frustrating, annoying and tiring. May try to do some yard clean-up; wife's Jeep needs oil/filter changed & serviced. Need to start doing some hands-on "design" and layout work for my oldest grandson's Pinewood Derby Racer...haven't done one of these for over 57 years. Apparently the "sport" has changed a bit based on You-tube research. @John Moody...what size screws/lag bolts do you use to hold those brackets to the wall? Just curious. @Cal....night stands turned out VERY nice. Toy-box is pretty cool too and obviously is becoming a family heirloom. I assume the gift you're making is going to be etched into some form of glass(ware)?
  7. That's a steal if it includes free shipping
  8. With proper counseling, I think we can help you work through this fear of corded work devices... Breath-in, breath out, breath in, breath out. Now visualize yourself using corded tools on a regular basis.
  9. I've done very little of it, but with mixed results. Most of the dowels I threaded were Birch so maybe not hard enough or the threads not course enough??? Ironic you should ask this question today. I was perusing the interweb last night for insert sources and options to put threads in wood...might take a look at what Grainger offers to see if any of their products (Links below) might offer an alternative solution. Both @Dadio, & @HandyDan make great points though. Herb noted we've been putting wood screws into wood forever and that works so... Dan's point to using the inserts is the hole size has to be greatly enlarged for the insert. Looks like a 3/8" insert needs a 5/8" ID hole...most machine screw sizes appear to require a 3/8" ID hole; T-nuts, all smaller ID's required. Great thread Gene...glad you asked...I'll be following close.! https://www.grainger.com/category/thread-insert/fasteners/ecatalog/N-8nr Grainger T-Nuts
  10. Wow Lew, another awesome compilation. When you see the recap, makes one realize how active our turning members are with the diversity of their projects. Thanks for the link on the thread inserts too.
  11. Well if it's any consolation, you're a WINNER in our book! Your case presentation was over the top!
  12. That's so cool Ron, 'er Sarge. Bet this brings back a lot of memories Thanks for sharing this memory with us.
  13. Even later to this party John. IDK how I missed it... These are VERY cool...amazing detail from the CNC of the coin face. Wish I had one of those filled full of old Buffalo nickels or Mercury dimes.
  14. This can't be true unless you've been hoarding coffee cans from last century. BTW...I have a "vintage" coffee can stashed somewhere...the old school kind you used a "key" to open.
  15. Don't see how he won't Artie; just being around your enthusiasm will be contagious. Just have some cookies (or better yet donuts) and milk available to end each session. Everett can have some too.
  16. My goodness, what is not to like about this? Exquisite in detail and perfection. Best fortune to you in the contest. Ya' got my vote for sure! Thanks for sharing with us...sorry for the drool stains all over it.
  17. As you know I'm sure, really means nothing...if the Certificate isn't traceable back to NIST it doesn't really matter unless you're doing work that would require such. I know you understand, but the point I was attempting to make, even if you had bought a used surface plate off eBay or even local, the odds of it being any more accurate than what you bought are minimal unless it had been certified w/i the past 3 mo. Technically, after a plate has been shipped or moved it should be rechecked. All good if you need that level of accuracy...of course it doesn't come without cost either as you know. I've got a couple H-F digital calipers...they seem to be accurate and repeatable at least from 0-2" when checked against my much more expensive Starretts, 0-1", 0-2" micrometer style mics...of course they haven't been re-certified for ??? other than me checking calibration against the 1.000" & 2.000" standards I have and they haven't been checked for ???. Anyways, they all work for me for what I do and I can't see any issues from the middle of the road.
  18. With this mindset Artie, you're well on your way to being a very competent woodworker. Like anything else, the skills grow as you do more and more. The fact you enjoy being in the shop doing whatever is the main motivator. Nothing else will teach and challenge you more than teaching someone else to do something. Looking forward to hearing more of this evolving mentor-ship. Take a look at these great threads...similar story. @Lissa Hall has had an amazing impact on this young man. I see the opportunity for you to have like results!
  19. Sorry Pat...this one is too far away for me...missed the one in Indy again this year. Enjoy the show, safe travels and of course we want pictures of your purchases.
  20. Artie, I have (3) scroll saws mostly gathering dust so I can't be of much help there but I'm sure some our SME's will come along and help you in that endeavor. BTW...Good on you for seeing the need and to be willing to help out not only with woodworking skills but more importantly, life skills. Blessings will return to you for your kindness. I did a quick search "Cursive Writing of the Word Mom (Dad) and came up with these. Images can be saved, pulled into to Paint Brush or whatever programs you have, resized to your liking, then printed. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=cursive+writing+of+the+word+mom&atb=v92-6_g&iar=images&iax=images&ia=images https://duckduckgo.com/?q=cursive+writing+of+the+word+dad&atb=v92-6_g&iar=images&iax=images&ia=images
  21. Some mighty "purty" looking wood you got there Wichman! This batch was not from Green Valley though, correct?
