  1. That is some great work on those plaques. Hope this next round goes well for you
  2. French cleat is the word but you have set it up as a double making it a large dovetail. A regular French Cleat will have a strip on cabinet and one on wall. The strip is as you have done with opposing angles and is used by many for cabinets . It is also good in the shop where you might move cabinets around at a later date.
  3. That is interesting, What did the label say about surface prep? Maybe incompatible with the other finish . also [possible that the other finish has to be cured for a period of time before application of the ultraviolet finish.
  4. Dan I need some of that stuff for those folks who do not use them. Been on a rant bout that lately.
  5. Great looking machine. Should make cutting easier
  6. Looking good there . Why did you go to 12000, Special finish? Yes I have done it but usually to finish the finish only. Have now learned better ways to get there. But yes the high grits do put the touches on a gloss finish. If using lacquer you can try Beal Buff with about 800 rpm and see what you can get that high speed will just take off the finish totally. I can see you are having fun.
  7. Herb you never cease to amaze with the tools you make. Great job
  8. Well you got me again . Now I have to watch the new NE video. Thanks Lew. Lew it looks to me like you have the whole thing pretty well covered. I like the way it is
  9. Here are the standing pics These are the pegs for leveling shelves This was the first try at back support. Used Blum clip hinges. Will try door hinge next. Still a little too tippy with these and hopefully the next plan works
  10. I do not think we have covered different shapes and repeatability. I turned several as gifts one year and I made a pattern for the first cut. There was trees, crosses and I think diamonds. I started with manila folder to cut the patterns but ended up with some thin plastic I have. Just remember the pattern you use will be 1/2 of the finished piece. I colored inside and learned it is better to do that on first turn than at finish.
  11. Are you sure that didn't just fall into your truck off a showroom floor? Looks brand new to me now you got the dust off.
  12. Where did you get the brass for ferrells? How did they work? For hollowing the bend should leave the cutter even with the handle. That is a straight line thru the handle should end up at the cutter. Just in case you needed to know.
  13. Got that part done yesterday and working today. What I did was drill holes thru side into the front portion of each shelf on both sides. Cut some aluminum rod stock 3 inches long and made wooden knobs. Drilled the knob and peened the end of rod so it will not slip thru knob and inserted rod. Thinking I will run a cord thru all these pegs so one does not get lost. Now thinking about what to do for extension leg at back for tipping as is a little tippy now but no weight on it.
  14. Kinda but just 1/2 inch or less. This idea started from pinned joints when the glues were not that great but this also to reinforce the joint. Also there is a method in M&T joints where the hole in one piece is slightly offset from the hole in the other and driving in the pin draws the joint together. This would also work on your double bridle joint. I think that is called a pinned mortise and tenon joint.
  15. On your doors you can drill the center of joint and glue in a dowel. Might use a contrasting color dowel.
  16. That stuff is old. Had forgotten about the floppy drive that is separate from the computer. Man how far they have come with technology.
  17. Used to keep splinters of the stuff for emergency fire starter. Also this is what was use to make turpentine. They would dig it up and boil it to get the turpentine. Do not think I want to turn it as it usually has pockets of sap also.
  18. A tip on a crack. Instead of epoxy (except for large open cracks) try CA as it will wick down the crack into areas no other will reach. Nice success for a first try , keep at it. Oh now try for other shapes inside.
  19. Got a good bit done today. All shelves fitted to back. Had to do some work on the sides extension foot as it blocked the shelf. Oops out of order. This is planing down the inserts in old shelf dados. This is doing a rabbit to clear the extensions. Folding sides fitted showing cabinet hinge i used This is is what it will look like folded. I did find that when the folding sides were installed some shelves scraped the sides so that is some more work. I may even use tablesaw to shorten shelves.
  20. You can't take it with you
  21. How does this finish build? Only one or two coats needed or several more?
  22. You must be one for persistence. That is amazing. All the reading I do have only see a very few pros make one of these. If I wanted pone would have to buy it. Saw Hosaluk use one and he is an artist with it. He said the hook is much better for end grain.
  23. Working on the folding display bookcase. Hope to get the woodworks done in couple days and then wait for dryer weather to paint.
  24. Nice save. Mine is a bit newer and has the the fence with it. There was a piece broken that seems to be broken on all I have seen , just do not remember now what. I had to get a new blade or should I say a different size but it works well. It is a #71 and it may be that bridge in front that is broken off.
