  1. I buy the Duracell or Eveready from Sam's Club in the large bulk packs. Cheapest way for us to keep up with batteries when the charge goes out. We use mostly the AA & AAA and then some of the C & D's. Now that we have very efficient flashlights that use the AA size that can beat the larger sized battery flashlights, it makes things much easier. Awhile back when I was at the Indoor Gun Range I came across some smaller LED flashlights that are rechargeable. It is a flat rectangular that is able to clip on on a pocket as well as having good strong magnets that will let me stick it on anything metal. I use it primarily for when I walk the dog at night as we have very little light where we live. It sure beats carrying a larger hand-held flashlight while keeping a hold of our Schnauzer.
  2. Just picked up my brand new Saw Stop Contractor saw with 36" fence and mobile base from the Woodcraft Store in Franklin TN which was about 90 minutes from my home in Bowling Green KY. They had it all on a pallet and fork lifted it up so I could get it slid into the truck bed. Once I got home I got got out all the boxes into the garage. Then the big job was to get the saw itself out of the truck. So I cut up the box and all the Styrofoam and was able get the saw out and put on a box and rolled it in. So later today I will get started on getting the saw set up.
  3. My wife and I finally got to go through the various boxes in the garage after the move. So we only have 2 more boxes for Tami to deal with (all of her teacher stuff). So that means I got the green light to buy my new table saw. I will be looking for a Saw Stop contractor with 32" extension. I would be able to order it from Amazon but they would add on $150 for shipping and they could not guaranty that they would be able to deliver it due to the weight. So I contacted the Woodcraft Store in Franklin, TN which is a bit over an hour drive from my house. They were currently out of stock but were placing an order for a number of them. So they took my name and cell number and will contact me when they get their shipment. So hopefully I will hear back from them in the next 7-10 days.
  4. Tami and I will be driving down to Nashville Airport tonight to pick up our daughter as she flies in from So. California. We will have here for a few days and then our son will drive down and spend a night before taking our daughter to back to Indianapolis to spend a few days with him and his wife.
  5. After our move to Kentucky, we have pretty much got all the new furniture and appliances as well as 90% of the knick-knacks and photos up on the walls and both "Guest Rooms" are all set up for visitors. I have been working on getting the boxes in the garage in order. So in our standard 2-Car Garage I have all of my tools and garage stuff on the one side and all the other "Non-Garage Stuff" on the other side with an aisle down the middle for access to enter and exit to to the house. We have done a good deal of weeding things out on the Non-Garage Stuff, but we still have a ways to go. We will be having our daughter flying out from California for Christmas and our son will be coming down from Indianapolis. We have a number of things for our kids to look though as there are a lot of their momentous and crafts that they made so we don't want them to make the choice for them. We have a pile of stuff to donate to local charities and other organizations. So once we get done with Christmas we will wrap up the garage so I can start working on setting up a shop in January. Today we will be having some good friends of ours from California stopping by for a night or 2. They had been on a cross country trip visiting their family in Florida and took a cruise with them. Then they have been seeing relatives in Georgia before heading our way. It will be good to see them and show them around.
  6. Lew, The church wanted them with flat tops but I encouraged them to let me make them on a slant. The reason for that is that once I started with the prototype that I made out of poplar, it became very clear that they were about "Bee-Hind" height for someone hanging out in the back of the service to set on and maybe doze off and crash or set their Starbuck's cup on it ruining the finish. So they agreed that it was a much better choice than being flat. I went a bit farther by making them a bit taller than the typical "Bee-Hind" level just for safety sakes.
  7. Very nice job on that box! A number of years ago I made 2 offering boxes for the back of the church for donations and for prayer cards of requests. They have held up well. I also made a wall box similar to yours for the church office for the different ministry leaders to drop off payments for events or attendance cards and such. The tall boxes have 2 compartments with the top one with a lock for the donations and the bottom section for supplies of cards and other items.
  8. Woodworking is on hold for some time due to our move from Corona, CA to Bowling Green, KY. We have been here about a month now and things are going well. Lots of new furniture and and other items of necessity as we left most of our furniture back in So. California via multiple garage sales and giving away to our new Jr. High Pastor and his wife in Corona, CA a bunch of furniture that they could start out with. Going from a 2,600 sq. ft. 4 bedroom 2 story house that we lived in for 17 years and now living in a 1,600 sq. ft. 4 bedroom single story house is a big challenge. But things are moving along as we get all of our ducks in a row (well....we are trying keep them ducks in line but there seems to be a lot of feathers in the air right now). The only "Wood Working" done so far was to get a few 2"x6' from Home Depot to put on top of the kitchen cabinets so Tami could put up some of her cookie jars up so you could see the jars over the molding/trim. One of the struggles coming from a large house to a smaller one is that we have had all kinds of wall space to put up photos and other things on the walls. Now we have to be very selective as we have far less art/photo space. The first thing that I put up was my Great Grandfather's tools in a case that I had made many years ago out of reclaimed wood that came out of an old Presbyterian church from Los Angeles. We have to be more selective artistic-wise with the lack of wall space.
  9. Back in the day when I worked for Coca-Cola as a delivery driver, we had metal clip-boards similar to this that were about 5/8"-7/8" thick. You could clip all of your invoices (3 pages- 1 for the customer, 1 for the driver and 1 for supervisors) in the order of the stops to keep things in order. After you finished the delivery and got it signed off by the customer you un-clipped it and moved to the back storage compartment. Those metal clip-boards were also good for dealing with dogs that came running at you as well.
  10. Today I got all the stuff in the garage in order as we will be getting our POD container delivered tomorrow with all of the stuff I packed up a few months ago. I will sure be glad when we get it all unloaded and my wife can start decorating our home and putting pictures and such on the walls. The dog is pretty scruffy and is in need of getting a hair cut. Still trying to find a groomer near by.
  11. I would not use a planer for that purpose, but I would use a drum sander for that purpose. I had been asked by the operator of my local Chick-fil-a run some plastic-type cutting boards to get them cleaned up from all the cutting. NOTE: these were not used for cutting chicken but for other items. They were about 3/4 to 7/8" thick and ran them through the Jet 16/32 drum sander. Once I got them all sanded and gave them back to the operator he was very happy. I did this twice for him before they got too thin.
  12. We have been busy working on getting stuff done in our new home in Bowling Green KY. We still do not have our refrigerator or washer & dryer, but those should be delivered by the end of the week. Been putting together various pieces of furniture and working on the master bedroom wire rack closet organizer. Still no cable for TV and Internet as the cable company has not gotten it wired yet. Good thing we have unlimited data on our Verizon phones and there is wi-fi in various restaurants. We also have no street lights on our street as it will take another month or so for the city to catch up. So we are tired but are getting things squared away as much as possible.
  13. With us still working on getting our house here in So. Calif. to get sold, we are still doing "Open Houses" with our Realtor and her team. We decided that we needed to get away from all the hub-bub so we dropped off our Miniature Schnauzer with a local "Dog Spa" here in town and headed down to San Diego, CA for some R&R while our Realtor held down the fort. We walked around the historical "Old Town" that has many historical building and museums as well as lots of historical dancing and music as San Diego was the crossroads for the Spaniards, Mexicans, Native Americans and English settlers. Then we headed down San Diego Harbor to walk around the Sea Port Village with lots of great restaurants. After dinner we walked a short distance to go by the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier and watch the sunset.
  14. Looks like it was a surly bunch of hooligans! :-) I hope to make it to the next gathering when it comes up.
  15. Just saw your post. Welcome to TPW! I saw that you live in Murfreesboro, TN. My wife and I were kicking around in your neck of the woods the last week of December and first week of January as we were looking at different areas for us to move to when my wife retired. We really enjoyed driving around there. We had narrowed down our our search south from Louisville, KY and down to Franklin, TN. We settled on moving to Bowling Green KY and have a new construction home that will be closing in a week or so. I am looking forward to getting there soon so I can. Glad to have you aboard!
  16. So are you selling off your tools to move to Kentucky like Tami and I are? After the purge of power tools, what are you going to use to make saw dust with?
  17. Considering that the Delta DC has left the building along with the owner's manual, I have to say that the Delta DC is........wait for it...........a Delta DC. It sucks in a good way and the felt bags that I replaced the original thin factory bags that leaked the fine particles shortly after I purchased the Delta DC made a world of difference to keep the fine saw dust in the bags and not in the air. The one thing that I did not sell to the guy was my "Long Ranger" remote to turn on the DC. I had wired the DC and my Jet saw from 110v to 220v which made my electrical panel happy. I loved that I could hang the remote on a post and just push the button to turn it off and on instead of going across the garage into the corner to turn it on.
  18. John, Our new construction home in Kentucky is slated to close escrow on September 10th. Our home here in Corona, CA is slated to close escrow on September 10th as well. Our buyer is an investor and has to deal with capital gains from a property she sold and has to invest the money into a new property to avoid capital gains tax. So we would like to hit the road the first week in September as we have to make a couple of stops on our way to Kentucky as long as everything is squared away with our buyer.
  19. Today is both a sad and glad day for me. As my wife and are working quickly for our move to Bowling Green, Kentucky from Corona, California, today I sold my Jet Contractor Saw with 52"extension with full extension drawers and my Delta 1.5hp Dust Collector. The photo below shows the empty space where the saw and dust collector lived. I bought my Jet saw about 1998 and it got a great amount of use over these 20 years. I bought my Delta dust collector about 2005 and used it for 13 years. As we are limited with U-Haul space I had to sell them as we can't take them with us. I posted it online with a price of $100 for the saw and $100 for the dust collector. Yes, those are very low prices, but I have very little time before we head to Kentucky. My wife posted them on the Facebook Marketplace for selling items. It only took 1 minute once I hit the "Send" button to get a response from a guy who was the first one to message me. He lived a few miles away and builds cabinets out of his garage. It took him all of 10 minutes for him to pull up in front of my house with a trailer. He was a really nice guy and I was happy that he was happy about getting a killer deal. But he was very skeptical wondering if there was a big catch to this deal. Once I told him our limited time frame and then fired up both the saw and the dust collector, he reached into his pocket and gave me two "Benjamin's". I am sure that he was looking in his mirrors to see if this was a set up and maybe the Cops would be after him. This was a big weight off of my mind as we still have a lot to do before leaving California. Our house is almost empty of furniture and the dog keeps walking around trying to figure out what is going on. He is very mopey and has to be near Tami and I as he is afraid that he may be gone too. So this is one less thing that I have to worry about as we get everything packed up.
  20. No I did not. As with all things that start in the shop, not all make it past the planning stage. I have/had a plan for making a flip top stand for my Rigid Planer and belt/disk sander. But when I sold my Jet Mini Lathe with extension I used that lathe table to put my planer, disk/belt sander and mortiser. It had a lot of storage underneath with a couple of drawers. I sold that a month or so back when we had a garage sale to guy who was very happy.
  21. I have been busy trying to get things wrapped up for our move to Bowling Green KY. as Tami and I will be flying back there on July 25th to meet up with our realtors for a few days to find a new home. I have done all of the repairs on the wood patio cover/balcony and am in the process of putting on some paint. I picked up a 5 gallon bucket of paint at Home Depot and some various painting supplies. I decided to try out one of the Wagoner electric paint sprayers to see if it would make things go faster than rolling it. I have used one before in the past with good results so I gave it a shot. Long story short, it was not a good thing. Not enough power and it kept clogging even with fresh paint. I sprayed for about 10 minutes and got terrible results. So I decide to take it back to Home Depot and I started to take it apart and then something went "POP" and it pooped out about a cup full of paint and went all over the place including on the air hose. Fortunately I did this all on a plastic tarp so no paint on the patio. I then spent an hour trying to clean off the paint from the hose and sprayer and put it all back in the box to see if Home Depot will refund my $$. I will be rolling the paint today.
  22. Yesterday we got our 16' pod picked up to go to storage for our upcoming move to Kentucky. The rest of the day we were getting things packed up and had some people come by and pick up some pieces of furniture as our daughter posted a number of things online to a local website for our local community garage sale site. We had a number of people come by to buy and pick up pieces of furniture and stuff. I will have a guy come by today or tomorrow to pick up my Grizzly drill press and my Delta scroll saw. I had a guy come by and get my rolling wood scrap cart and another lady came by and bought one of my other rolling work benches that I used for my scroll saw. So I could not complain. When I got done with everything I headed upstairs to shower after all the work. I pulled off my t-shirt and pants and had bruises all over from all the beating & banging from carrying, stacking and wheeling stuff around. I am getting too old for all this moving crap!
  23. We got the "Pack Rat" container dropped off to my house on Friday. It is 16'x8'x'8 and it sure makes my life easier. It took me about 90 minutes to transfer all the boxes that we have been packing and taping and storing in our family room as well as the stuff stored in our shed. The one good thing working for Coca Cola as a delivery driver for a number of years is that the 2 wheeled hand truck skills came right back to me. I will finish up the loading over the next few days and should have it ready for them to pick it up and move it to their local indoor air conditioned storage facility. Once we get things squared away in Kentucky we will contact them to have it transported to our new home for me to unload. Cost for the container and transport is $3,550 which is much better than than any other company I looked at. If it takes more than a month then they will charge me $250 per month for storage fees which is not too bad. The only down side is that I have to stay within a 5,000 lb. cargo weight limit and I do have to pack my up my tools and my rolling tool chest. When we do head out from California we will be renting U-Haul trailer to take our personal stuff that we will need to set up in our new home. So if the weight is too much with my tools in the container I will have to get a bigger U-Haul. I pulled all the stuff down that was on top of the kitchen cabinets yesterday and some of the stuff in the cabinets that were too high for Tami to reach. Our daughter will be taking a lot of our dishes when she moves out the end of the month. We have been working on getting all of the blinds down and cleaned up as well as taking off all the screens and cleaning them as well as the windows. Since we have a 2 story I got an extendable pole and squeegee from Home Depot so I can get those windows that I cannot reach. Today I will be working on hosing down the house to get all of the cobwebs out of the stucco. So busy, busy, busy.
  24. I drove a number of years for Coca Cola. So packing is not a problem. The 16' container unit will be picked up next week. We will be getting a U-haul trailer to take the personal items. The U-haul trailer that we will pull to Kentucky with my Ford F150 will be a breeze.
