  1. The storms yesterday turned out to be a little fierce. It didn't rain long, but when it did it was so heavy you couldn't see 100 yards across the fields. There was some hail mixed in from time to time and the wind was horrible. Not to mention the lightning/thunder, but after thr front passed around 3:30P all was good (the wind did stick around). But this morning it's a cooler and calmer 54° at the moment, and we stay in the 60s today...but dry. Tonight we gte more rain, though nothing heavy and then we go into seasonal spring weather for a stretch, highs in the 60s and lows at times will bring some frost.
  2. You just never now what kind of wonderful things you'll find on Facebook......complete with satellite dish!
  3. Another wonderful day yesterday, we reached 84°. But rain moved in overnight and the first batch is moving out, to be followed by strong storms this afternoon. It's 62° this morning, mid 70s later with the storms. The weather folks (all of them) are hedging their forecasts on the storms....the severity depends on what happens later this morning; cloud cover means muted storms, sunshine means we head to the basement.
  4. Oh, man! look at the extra space to pile things!
  5. Kein, my wife watches a lot of the shows showing Veterinarian practices and an often expressed opinion is that loosing a leg isn't a big deal to a dog. But I can't imagine that's a whole lot cheaper...either choice sounds expensive.
  6. Very nice day yesterday. We got up to 72° and while it started out very windy, the wind subsided about the time I finished mowing () and with the sun it was just nice to be out...even got some of the seeds sprayed. This morning it's 51° and we should be in the upper 70s later. Rain moves in late in the day and tomorrow looks like it might be a little stormy. Another inch or so of rain is on the table.
  7. I did get to spend some time practicing with a skew chisel on the lathe over the weekend....but many more hours of practice is needed. Yesterday was nice enough to do some spring time chores outside. Taking our little dog to the vet this morning, then yard stuff later including mowing. Rest of the week looks rainy so I'll get some more lathe practice in somewhere in there.
  8. After hitting 82° yesterday we are still at 59° this morning. the wind was a bummer, but it was plenty sunny and got some things done outside anyway. Didn't mow (wind, plus i try to never mow on the weekends) but I should be able to get that in today. Speaking of today, we should be mostly sunny again, highs in the upper 70s, and less wind than yesterday. Somewhere in here i may have to take the dog to the vet to see about a "cherry eye" that popped up Saturday...but otherwise it looks nice today. That changes tomorrow as rain comes back for a few days; may get another inch or so this week.
  9. Yeah, I found that out...even the quick knife sharpening I did put a shallow dip in the stone I used. I flattened it again, it took longer to flatten it than to sharpen my knife.
  10. 78° here at the moment....a really nice feeling.
  11. I don't have any tools that need sharpened at the moment, but i did tune up my pocket knife. It took maybe 10 strokes in each direction on one of the stones and it was razor sharp....to say I was impressed would be an understatement.
  12. Over the years I've read about sharpening on Japanese whetstones and always cringed slightly when I looked at the cost of a set of them. Besides I have plenty of other ways to sharpen my chisels/plane irons/scrapers/whatever. But on another forum a fellow posted he had a set to gist to someone, it had already been up 10 minutes when i saw it and no one asked for them....so I did. He even paid to ship them to me. The USPS wasn't kind however, and one stove got a small chip in a corner (still in the package), and the opposite side of that same stone was cracked. Regardless, both are still usable, flat as Kansas, and he even gave me the stone holder for use. I've wanted to try these type of stones for some time, now I get the chance. I only know the grrit of one, the one in the holder is boldly printed 800 grit, no idea what the others are....but I'm sure I can find a use for all of them.
  13. It's a warmer 55° this morning, and we should be near 70 today....then rain moves in tonight. Yesterday turned out to be OK, we had lots of sun and it got to the low 60s, but still had a stiff wind dampening things.
  14. Buying that threshold would certainly be the easiest, but I used a online calculator and using the info you show It looks like the end on the ground will be about 5° (4.76, to be exact) and the high end will be 85° (or 85.24 for the precision number). both the 10' and the 11' came out this way. I used this calculator, though there are a lot of them available. I didn't check these results, you might want to draw then on the plank and see if they look good
  15. We.re at 42° this morning after what can only be described as a truly nasty day yesterday. It drizzled through the day until 3P or so keeping things just wet enough that you couldn't do anything outside. But the real problem was the wind, it was howling with sustained speeds of 30MPH, and gust to 45 MPH. Our little dog couldn't even hear me call her back (or maybe she was just ignoring me as usual ). Today it should be a lot nicer, mis 60s, lots of sun and a lot less wind. Maybe we can dry out a little before it rains again tomorrow night.
  16. Yet another medial appointment for Marie today. If i get time later i have to repair a leak on a Rug Doctor I bought 25 years ago in a pawn shop (the old kind with a separate cleaning head). The pump gasket started leaking and I'll repair it with RTV. If any other time is available I'll be screwing around with the lathe.
  17. A cool morning to start, we're at 47° right now and stay in the 50s today. May have some light rain through the day before things dry out. We wound up getting another .3" yesterday, and to say we're soaked would be a huge understatement. Looks like thing start warming up again tomorrow and stay that way for a while, maybe even get some sun to dry things out.
  18. Stared raining last night around 6P and rained most of the night with a steady rain. It's still raining albeit lightly. We got about 1.2" so far, and more predicted later. At this point 'm really glad i mowed last Monday, it may be 10 days+ before i can mow again. But it's still warm this morning at 57°, and we may be near 70 later. A little cooler tomorrow and still rainy. It has to clear up sooner ot later. This will put a big kink in the local farmer's plans, a lot of them had their planters hooked up and ready to go.
  19. My last house must have had10-12 of those darn things, several were blown over during storms. Most of them were still there when we sold it...they are miserable trees. But that clip had information I hadn't heard before.
  20. I'll have the find a place to put my eclipse glasses where I can remember when the next one shows up!
  21. It's 55° this morning, mid 60s later. We got .3" of rain last night and I'm told e will get another 1.5" through Friday. Like Dave, we don't need it. Might get some stiff winds today as well, something else we don't need.
