  1. I have absolutely no doubt is your abilities!!
  2. You know I love that old mallet! I'd do a T&G with a raised panel NOT my work!
  3. Thanks for the information. I have never heard of Aleen's Tacky Glue.
  4. Nice! What adhesive do you use to cement the two different media together?
  5. Alright! Glad you got the tar paper on before the rain. When I was a kid, just starting out, I worked for a builder (just a couple man crew). When it got too hot to put on shingles, we would either put up hay in his barn or put fiber glass insulation in the attics of houses already under roof.
  6. They came our really nice! Thanks for the link, too. A long time ago I was visiting a builders home and was taken into the den. The wood looked super old with deeply etched patterns as if the elements had worn away the softer areas between the grain. When I asked about it, they explained that the boards weren't that old but had been sandblasted to achieve that look. I always thought that was a pretty neat trick.
  7. Neat device, Gene. Looks very precise. The guy ties a pretty good bowline knot, too!
  8. Thanks for reading and thanks for the kind words.
  9. Thanks! So far it hasn't cracked!!
  10. Thanks everyone for the kind comments, they are really appreciated.
  11. I like the sand paper fit tip, John! I guess the final shaping could h\also have been done on a lathe?
  12. My first lathe book was by Ernie Conover.
  13. Another week gone by. The sun is getting a little lower in the sky but the days are still hot and humid. A really warm welcome is extended to all of the new members to The Patriot Woodworker. We've been blessed with some really talented folks. As mentioned last week, we'll be spotlighting these turners each week. Today's lucky winner is a turner who celebrates Christmas all year. Ron Altier has been giving showing us his beautiful turnings and ornaments for the past 6 years! His latest endeavors are these two awesome turnings Check out Ron's work, which by the way isn't limited to ornaments, here- http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/profile/3488-ron-altier/?tab=node_gallery_gallery Most turners know the name Carl Jacobson and if you turn bottle stoppers you should know about Ruth Niles' stainless steel bottle stoppers. Carl has put up a You Tube video demonstrating Ruth's stoppers and some of her turning accessories. In my opinion, you cannot do better than the Niles stoppers. New member and turner Gerald, posted a picture of his beautiful "Pink Magnolia" vase. Here's a video showing how a vase or "weed pot" can be turned. Safe Turning!
  14. Coming together nicely! Stay Safe!!

    Red Magnolia

How did you get the two-tone lip around the top?

    Red Magnolia

I can't think of anything that can continue to keep history, in our minds, than creating something from a piece of wood with this much background.

    Two more

Nicely done, Ron, I like that new design, too.
  18. Awesome shop! Just one thing- The unwritten, unpublished, super secret rule for shop pictures here at the patriot- no fair cleaning up the shop before taking the pictures. It makes the rest of us look bad

    Brushes & Scales

Those are some beautiful pieces! I remember my Dad used a straight razor. He also had a razor strap to hone the blade and occasionally make sure I stayed out of trouble!
  20. I use these. Basically the same thing. I usually do the sharpening with the cutter still on the tool.
  21. Oh No! Hopefully it will look better in the morning light.
