  1. I know I told a lot of people about the new club in the Santa Cruz area but did not include an address at the time. This was in part due to security reasons, and the fact that we did not not have a regular meeting location. Well, now we do. I can proudly say we will be meeting at Saints Peter and Paul Church. The address is 9980 Hwy 9, Ben Lomond, CA 95005. It is located to the side of the main building in a small temporary style structure. We meet the third Saturday of each month at 9 AM. If you are in the area, please com,e by and say hello.
  2. Thanks. I appreciate it. Just make sure to leave out tthe Sawmill Creek bit. This is open to anybody in this area.
  3. Sorry. I copied this across all forums. I forgot to take out the sawmill creek bit. It is open to anybody in this area.
  4. I would like to announce the new woodturning club in Santa Cruz County. It is called the Santa Cruz Woodturners Association. We just got accepted as a chapter of the AAW and currently have 17 members. If any of the members of The Patriot Woodworker live in the area and would like to come by, please email me directly at ldubia@yahoo.com. We currently meet at a members house until such time as we can secure a long term location. Our membership includes absolute beginners to professional turners so everyone is welcome. Thanks, Larry Dubia
  5. John, I am curious on the timeline when these tools will be reaching me. I confess I am anxious to give them a go. Although I have not found where I siigned up, I know I did indicate a desire to try them. Can you help here? Thanks, Larry Dubia
  6. I tend to agree. This is also why I don't turn many acrylic blanks. Most everything I do is in wood. I may combine things to make them different but that is yet another post to be done.
  7. Here is the first pen I have made from the surf gel blank. It was very hard and brittle but turned out well. Comments and such welcome.
  8. I have turned many pieces of wood looking very similar to this. I think it is treeus woodus. Commonly called tree wood. It has bark on the outside, sapwood followed by heartwood on the inside. Many species have interesting little holes and voids. Fun stuff. Nice work. LOL
