Bear paw beer coasters

Dale Felice

These I did with leftover collector plate interior cutouts and paw pics from the net. Coasters are made from all birch. Paws stained walnut at 1/4" . Finish is cabot satin and four coats. 6"x6" round. Cheers boys!

I guess you can call it that or marquetry. I turn the saw roughly 3º or so depending on blade and thickness of material used. I pop em in place till satisfied then sand. Ill pop em out and stain. When I put em back I use clear glue around edges. To cut out each individual piece I drill a tiny hole in an area where its hidden I.e. tight corner. It hides very well. I'm glad you like em. My next feat is deer hooves.

Sometime I might borrow this idea and modify it if and when I get a scroll saw or the use of one.  Take paw prints of all four paws of my Service Dog Ruby.  Transfer them to wood cut them out and then inlay them in round pieces.  It's such a neat idea.  Thanks for sharing it.

You sure can no problem... its a great idea. If you can take a look at my dog pic when I post it..... it Will be titled sir bennie. Its a min pin of ours that I did work on photoshop to make it a custom pattern. Dont forget if you scroll those paws, test on a scrap to get a tight fit first. Different thicknesses change the degree. Also I do believe it is clockwise cutting to inlay it. It will save much frustration. I'm glad you like this and thank you for the comment!
