February 17, 20233 yr Popular Post "Almost There" Hi everyone !Mike Mathieu here. Been a long time since I 've had anything to share with the group. Glad to be back. Here is the latest and greatest progress picture of my latest Intarsia project. I got the birds in the bush and the buck inlayed into the background. I still have the rabbits and a few more bushes and trees to add to the foreground and maybe a pileated woodpecker on the big tree. We'll see if it scales out. 325 pieces from 22 woods so far Edited February 17, 20233 yr by Mike Mathieu flip photo

February 18, 20233 yr Author Thanks Gene--Been working on this piece off and on since October. This is a design as I go project which means lots of cuts and re-cuts to get the depth right. My intention was to use as many natural colored woods and adding as much detail as possible. Had no idea how many pieces it would have but figured at least 300 would be close.

February 20, 20233 yr Man Mike, such detail, those look awesome, what kind of hand work goes into those tiny pieces?
February 20, 20233 yr Author Thanks John- each piece starts off with the subject photo, hand drawn onto paper , reduced to the proper size on the printer, traced onto sticky back label paper, applied to the wood blank, cut on the scroll saw, sanded, detailed with engraving bits and inlayed into the background wood. Some pieces take around 10 or so minutes just to get to the inlay stage which is another whole process. Fun Stuff!!
