Popular Post Larry Buskirk
Friday again folks. Feels like somebody put this past week into hypersonic overdrive. Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we're preparing for a forecasted HOT/HUMID/STORMY weekend. Not looking forward to temps in the 90's, high humidity, and dewpoints with heat indexes forecast to be in the triple digits. At times it feels like you could swim in the thick humid air. Judging from the trees, it might be an early winter. Our Oak trees are already dropping their leaves. That's about two months early for this area. Not sure what I'll get done, but... Popular Post Gene Howe
More work on Limbert tables. Some work at the 'puter, registering some new Rigid tools. Phyl's gone for most of the day. Costco run and, more needle work supplies. Consequently, I'm unsupervised. Fred W. Popular Post Gunny
Doing retro fit and upgrade to an old cabinet. New drawers resized to current needs. And new ball bearing slides. Yup, that is edge banded OSB for the sides. steven newman, Thad, Woodman and 9 others

Popular Post Grandpadave52
Weather forecast here is about the same as Larry's. I'll pace myself but plan to get all 4+ acres mowed. Between the 1" or so total rain this past week + plus several mornings of heavy dew, most of the brown yard has changed to a yellow with green highlights. Project list is legion so I'll spend some QT re-prioritizing the list, crossing out items I've already accomplished so far this summer, then breaking it down in multiple smaller, more manageable to do lists. I'll then rank the order of smaller lists by tasks, then bold type the most urgent tasks on each list. If time allows, I may select a task at random, then create a detailed step-by-step list of how to proceed. We'll see. Fred W. Spoken like a true Project Manager There's been very little shop time for the past month. One crisis after another. Hoping for a calmer and more peaceful August. kmealy
Was supposed to help a friend construct a base for a "wishing well" for his front yard, but he was unable to make it. Did a bit of work to get it started after the materials run yesterday. Wrapping up a build of bunk beds for dolls. Saturday back to the theater shop for some more work on SpongeBob set. Rain preventing me from mowing the yard. Drat. For 25+ years the woodworking club has been sending toys, 800-1200 a year, to a charity in Appalachia. We have (sadly) been informed that they are unable to take more. They have some left from last year and the kids are more interested in video games than shop-built toys. Thinking back to my childhood and how few toys I had. We were not poor, but not well-off either. In early years we were told, "Without these toys, many of the children would have no Christmas present." Popular Post Gerald
Not sure if I got y'all up to date on my ortho appt Monday. Found out both knees bone on bone but it is the left giving me a problem. So probably be doing more hospital visits in my future. Been doing little projects in shop such as redoing racks at lathe and planning for a side table for the wife I have had on the short (kinda) list for maybe 4 years. Got most of the chips from having 4 stumps ground, including a 24 inch pin oak, moves so I can till and get ready for sod next week I hope. More of that today in short doses before the heat hits again tomorrow. Cal, Larry Buskirk, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 6 others 5 2
knockonit
well now, all went well with dust collector right up till we fired it up, the contactor provided with control decided to break the epa rules and smoke on the job, so..........just ordered a larger hopefully more compatable one and will install tomorrow. if it arrive,s ugh, seems that big ole 4 hp collector cranked up the start amps over what it claims and well rest is history, happy days rj in az HARO50, Woodman, steven newman and 5 others 4
Popular Post Woodman
Spent too much money on wood today. Will soon want to 'find' some pre-1920 furniture to tear apart. It don't find itself, so I'll try trolling for treasures. Hitting a farm market tomorrow; there are registered vendors along one stretch and a whole lot of foot traffic past people who bring whatever they want to sell in another area. This week I knocked together a couple of folding tables. Everything is packed, the tables in an art portfolio bag - finally found a use for it - ready for a walk-in. Popular Post Cal
Getting caught up from our trip to Ohio, that's another post for later Looking at the yard when we got home, I don't know if it rained at all while we were gone. Big brown spots of centipede grass that is supposed to take heat & drought. Greenish-grayish patches of bermuda grass about 6" tall... I've gotten the lawn mowed and started trying to revive it with some water. No wood projects planned for the weekend. I think I might pull out a couple of space taker-upper tools and list them for sale; I've not used the engine hoist or 30 ton shop press in several years and no projects on the horizon that would require them. Might even look at some of my larger wrenches - I haven't touched most of them in over 40 years when I was last working on farm equipment and big trucks... Popular Post HandyDan
We're having our family picnic at the local park. Figures the humidity would set in for the occasion.
