I've got to get it moved from next door before I can tear it down further. I tried telling the tow truck driver that it would be easier for him to drop it next door. Had to of course break down in the construction zone out front of our place. The tow truck driver told me "I can back in anywhere", and when we pulled up by my place I told him you have to make a 90° turn right behind those bushes. He looked at me and said, "F that driveway, where's next door"? We only had the one lane traffic backed up about 1/4 mile at that point. I'll pull it in the driveway around the back way through the yard. Neither of the cams are seized, I can move both. Take picture of belt for me. Might help figure out what happened. We got 2 inches in about 2 hours yesterday. There is just no way to get anything done outside. Neighbor having roof done and they stopped Friday and just got back on it this morning. Well Gunny, it appears the idler pulley failed and snapped off it's mounting bolt in the block. Here's a few photos of what I found. Just after removing the timing cover. Made a pretty good mess around the crank pulley. Notice anything missing? It fell out on the ground when I removed the timing cover. Took out a few other parts as well. The bolt is stuck in the idler pulley. Kind of surprised I didn't hear anything, but being in the construction zone I might not have been able too. Kind of how I'm feeling. 18 hours ago, Gunny said: My buddy had one of these days today. p_toad, Gunny, Gerald and 3 others 1
Popular Post Gunny
Motor should be fine, rarely have I seen the V6 3.5 kill valves. Not impossible though. In the shop to check we go one cylinder at a time and put air in the cylinder. Then turn crank and camshaft then listen. Each one should at some point in the rotation close the valves and no air leaks. For this motor the camshafts have numbers on the front 1-6. Turn the camshaft each number and check cylinder. You can find this procedure in a repair manual under valve adjusting. Of the top of my head I don't remember exactly. Bolt fatigue is common in Northern vehicles. Dissimilar metals don't play well together. FlGatorwood, Thad, p_toad and 4 others 6

May only be partly related to bolt fatigue, the bearing failed and spun good enough to spin weld the bolt into it. Supposedly OEM Honda, parts all matched what was removed, including the KOYO bearing part numbers. Water Pump has the cast on HONDA name, parts in separate bags/boxes with Honda labels/part numbers. If it's a fake, it's a D#%n good one. Edited July 22, 2021 by Larry Buskirk Fred W. Hargis Jr, Thad, p_toad and 1 other
Larry Buskirk
Yo, @Gunny The idler bearing/pulley mounting bolt is spun welded into the bearing. I've tried getting it out. The remainder of the bolt is broke off in the block, and I'm sure you know where it's located. Of course I saved everything but the old timing belt, which I could have used to check the valves for damage. Fred W.
