May 8, 20215 yr Popular Post well got my lath finally, and started to turn lol, first attempt at new cane, thought best to start small, cause wife wants new legs for table, lots of fun
May 8, 20215 yr Popular Post Looking good. It is a challenging first project. Long slender pieces tend to whip and chatter. Grabbing the drive end in a chuck and using less pressure on the tail stock end go a long way at resolving these issues. Sometimes a steady rest is also needed. I have gone to making them two piece when I make them.
May 8, 20215 yr Popular Post Nice! Our guys have offered some great tips. Looking forward to seeing the finished cane and the table legs!!
May 8, 20215 yr Popular Post Having just went through that (novice turner and table legs) it can be quite a challenge, but a lot of fun. I turned 7 practice legs before I did the real ones...and they still didn't come out that close.
May 8, 20215 yr Popular Post Funny thing is I bought my first lathe for table legs and it was almost 10 years before I did legs on a lathe. That looks like a good start

May 9, 20215 yr Actually a tough first project. I don't know if there is anything harder to do on a lathe than a straight taper. Looking good for your first project.
