Popular Post kmealy Posted November 17, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted November 17, 2020 (edited) And I always thought this was just a rural Kentucky thang[sic]. https://homewords99.wordpress.com/2012/01/11/chester-drawers/?fbclid=IwAR3h387_Au0hM1qdFy60UulgXTGNh4tSTdb8PpuotSv9B3BFxhNDriI5lZs Edited November 17, 2020 by kmealy Cal, Gerald, HARO50 and 5 others 7 1 Quote
Popular Post kmealy Posted November 17, 2020 Author Popular Post Report Posted November 17, 2020 A woman I used to work with had a piece she called a chifforobe. New to me. And one of my retail customer's back office lady always said "arm-Wooah" Je ne sais pas qu'elle parle Français. HARO50, lew, Artie and 3 others 1 5 Quote
Popular Post lew Posted November 17, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted November 17, 2020 When I saw the topic headline, I thought back to a completely different "Chester". When W.C.Fields did many of his skits (often on the radio), one of his sponsors was Lucky Strikes. To get a dig in on the sponsor, he often made it a point to mention his (fictitious) brother "Chester". Thanks for the lesson on how the name came about. Popular Post Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted November 17, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted November 17, 2020 That was an interesting read, but I didn't see how we got to Chester Drawers. My mom (who isn't from KY, but rather SW OH) always pronounced it "chester drawers" (as I recall). But she did marry my dad, who is from southern KY....so maybe she got it from him. Somewhere early in my life I figured out (or found out) it was "chest of drawers". I had also picked up on one or two of the other names mentioned in the article; I had never heard of one called a "commode" which was always a toilet to me. Fun article! Gerald Posted November 17, 2020 Report Posted November 17, 2020 Chiffarobe my be a southern term but to me it was a tall chest with drawers on one side and on the other a full length mirror on a door to hanging clothes area. Thanks for a very interesting article . Apparently the still make Chiffarobes. Artie, DuckSoup and Cal 3 Quote
Popular Post HandyDan Posted November 17, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted November 17, 2020 I'm thinking Chester wouldn't like having his "drawers" on display. Fred W. Hargis Jr, HARO50, DuckSoup and 4 others 7 Quote
