Popular Post Bundoman
Judging is tomorrow for two of my daughters woodworking 4H projects. This has been a very different experience than past years with all judging being virtual but the shop/daddy daughter time remained fairly similar. The interaction with the judges is a big part of the fair year typically and had to be replaced with a written form explaining their projects. Thought I would share their finished projects tonight with you all. Each of them have a woodworking entry with my 12 year old having made a game board with recycled Red Cedar, and the 17 year old, a keepsake box which will be a housewarming gift for her oldest sister after the fair. The older one decided to give carving a shot in the Visual Arts Wood category as well. The angel will judge Friday. They worked very hard and as usual, challenged me to help them try new things. I wish them the best of luck and am proud of their hard work. sreilly24590, Artie, HandyDan and 8 others

HandyDan
Perfect. Just had the fair board cancel our fair this year. Sad times indeed. Grandsons are disappointed they won't get to show off the animals they raised and trained. They are trying find a way to keep the Junior Fair alive. Popular Post FlGatorwood
You have every reason to be proud of those projects and the execution of each. That chinese checker board with cedar is absolutely stunning. And, I love that each game box has easily accessible storage for game parts. The carving is a wonderful job as well. Kudos to you and the young ladies. Artie, Gunny, HARO50 and 4 others

We struggled to get going early on this season because of the uncertainty that the show would happen. Unfortunately, many have not. For your grandsons, and with animals especially, there is so much time and effort invested and it is tough news to have to back away. I hope your fair can survive this all. I really do believe in the value of this program. The biggest change for our fair and my girls was that we had to change project plans pretty significantly to make an entry deadline which moved up two weeks to accommodate processing of all entries through virtual medium. My older daughter was disappointed by this as she has only 1 more year to compete and her original project plan was much more ambitious for 2020. She opted to change projects in order to make the show. Like so many things in 2020, change is inevitable a guess. Popular Post Gerald
That is some wonderful work on all those projects. Tell the oldest that she could just turn pro and start selling carvings. Our Ag Commissioner announced yesterday that the livestock show will go on but no word on the fair that I know of yet. Popular Post kmealy
Very nice. I have three daughters that likewise went through the 4H program and since they aged out (mid-90s) have been a judge at the state fair (and a few local counties). Unfortunately, the state fair judging is cancelled this year. Artie, Bundoman, FlGatorwood and 6 others 6
Popular Post Artie
I’m thinking that you and your daughters are proving that woodworking Talents can be passed on through the genes. ( Lower case gene as opposed to the upper case mentor/guru that hails from AZ) I hope they stay with the wood working as they grow up, there is talent there. Popular Post Bundoman
And...now the waiting game. Virtual fair is new for 2020 as you are all well aware. So...the portion of the website to observe results is not yet complete. I tell these young ladies that patience is a virtue but the old man is checking in regularly...All in good time! I guess I am just confessing a little about my deficiencies today! Indications are Friday or after for results...Suspense is a character builder, right? 😜😜😬 Larry Buskirk, p_toad, HandyDan and 4 others 3
Popular Post Bundoman
Results have finally been tallied and we have three Blue ribbons with State Fair nominations for all three. Each daughter can only enter 1 general project so my older is going to have a choice to make. She thinks this decision might be tougher than learning the project. Proud of their hard work. Bundoman
Alright everyone...my older daughter has the Walnut box and angel carving as her projects. She is struggling to decide which one she should carry over to State Fair competition in August. She can only take one. As such, she is polling her Instagram friends and suggested that I ask your opinions as well as Knows I shared her progress here. If the box goes, she will be showing her fourth consecutive State Fair woodworking project. Wood carving doesn’t appear in 4H often so that is her debate. I like both and am trying to remain as neutral as possible. Tell me what you think. She needs to decide by Friday. Popular Post Gene Howe
Tough call! But, the angel would be my choice. Best of luck, which ever way she decides. FlGatorwood, Gunny, Bundoman and 2 others
